got some more pictures of the bumper on the cruiser. I found a huge hinge at the local steel shop and put it on. The only thing I don't like is it appears to move more than I want it to under pressure on the end when it is swung open. Does anyone have any idea what a 35 inch tire and wheel weighs? I've still got to grind down some of the welds and continue to build.
thanks guys

I'd say 90 pounds, My 35 tire weighs 72 lbs according to shipping. It depends on which tire and which wheel. What are you using for a hinge? In the photo it looks like a door hinge. I don't think that type of hinge is going to be strong enough. Most folks use a 1" or so shaft with a bushing or bearing configuration. Trailer spindles are common. I used a 1.5" inch shaft with a custom machined bushing.

My 305/70/16 (about 33x12) SSRs with 16x8 wheels weigh 113 lbs a piece.

that hinge is definitly not going to work, you should do some more homework on other hinge designs. if you are looking for a simple non-bearing hinge, look at bulletproof's swing out carrier and make something similar.

mines pretty simple. the bottom one is a piece of tube w/ the appropriate sized bolt.....the top is a tube, fitting in a tube. way basic, but neither is strong enough alone...gotta have both to work. on mine anyhow.....
