Mmmmmmmm. Night run!
Twister's a drive though bro. How about a Patz run?
Won't be getting into town until 7-8pm on Tues. I'll be in a tent trailer at the camp grounds with a cute portly little feller named Steve.
He likes turtles.

P.S.: Look for a silver 04' Dodge Ram diesel short box, black buggy, and black trailer.

Hampton Inn of course :)
Should be a good time. For once the truck is on the trailer ready to head out a few days in advance (thanks KC for the help).
The front cage is roughed out, but needs some additional work. The trailing arms are still the same one's that were ghetto "fixed" at the CC a few years ago (yeah - trail/parking lot fixes = permanent fixes until they fail). And it needs a few coats of military green to match the windshield frame I got from Pendy.
It still sits a bit high, we really need to cut off about 2" of the rear springs and move the stops on the coilovers in the front - as it looks just right strapped down to the trailer.
See you guys there - the 110 and trailer should be up at the fairgrounds around 5pm or so - Sceep and his dad are hauling it up there for me (as my tow rig got stolen). I'll be along shortly after that in the Rubi.
Shall we head out for some non-trail dusted dinner Tuesday night?

Good and Bad:
Day 1 - Rocotillo Rapids
25 plus rigs in the lineup made me think this was going to be a really long day. But we managed to get to the lineup area early and get near the front of the line. Myself in the 110, Tisdale in his 90, and Dougypoo in his Hendrix/Rover. Just about every rig in the lineup was sporting 40+ tires. Harold (of Off Again offroad) was the trail leader. Sonny from Avalanche was there sporting a revision of his Scorpion at about 135" wheelbase with a Cummins 4bt.
The trail was cake for all vehicles involved. Everyone made every obstacle without much fanfare. A short wheelbase Scorpion did a wheelstand/pirouet/rollover backwards on the very last waterfall. I think he though he was in reverse when he floored it, but not sure. No damage to the vehicle and it was righted and went right up after that.
Shortly after that on the drive out of the canyon, Tis noticed my 110 leaking oil from the front axle. Turns out it spit out the brass bushing that centers the axle in the tube just to the inside of the CV. It is poorly designed and is only a press fit bushing. After using Doug's fisher price cherry picker and some other stuff we managed to get the whole portal/axle assembly off - find the errant bushing and reinstall (the very loose fit) bushing with jbweld - and called it good.
Tis also had a minor issue with the CV on his front driveshaft being buggered up, but he had a replacement, so it was no big deal.
Day 2: Patzquero's Revenge
Cold/overcast/windy morning - per the usual CC day.
Many no shows in the line up - dunno if it was the weather, attrition from the previous day, or the reported difficulty of the run. But we ran with far less folks.
The bushing fix was holding up okay in the morning so I decided to go ahead and run it.
We dropped down into the common entrance for Rocotillo/Pats and approached the first real interesting parts of Pats. The first area is called Nemesis 1 and involves an off camber approach to a tight V-notch/fall. Several of the bigger/badder rigs tried it (including Doug) and made it with varied degrees of success. Many (including myself and Tis) took the "bypass". So named because it used to be easier than the real line. But is now more technical and nearly as difficult as the real nemesis 1. We were able to get all the vehicles through without incident, except for a Toy truck owner that forgot to torque his leafspring bolts, and lost several nuts.
Nemesis 2 now consists of a left and right side. The left side used to be the "easy" out bypass in the past. Now both sides are nearly vertical- the left being a wide notch, with poor topside traction on a nearly 3 foot last step. And the right being a very tall near vertical wall (taller than my 110 is long). Reportedly several buggies from the previous day made it up this side, but I'd have to see it to believe it. Harold and Doug made very good tries up the left side but eventually winched out. Everyone else winched out on the right side fall.
On the approach to Nemesis 3 my bushing spit out again, so I was done with the hard stuff.
Nemesis 3 is a deceptively hard fall, that is multistepped, offcamber and slick on the top with dirt. This obstacle has seen many end over rollovers. But on this day a surprising number of vehicles made it up. Two mildly build Toy trucks on moderate sized tires, made it look rather easy actually. Most others had to combine hard offcamber climbing with some horsepower wheelspin at the top (including Doug).
To finish up this shortish day - we had some fun on the last small v-notched fall on the drive out. Folks played a bit on it, but most were successful. Tis sheered the dynatrac steering arm off the top of his right knuckle (clean through 3 bolts). We were able to transfer all the steering components onto the cast arm that was on the knuckles and we all pronounced it better than the original (angle and strength wise), albiet a bit lower clearance.
We drove out and called it a day.
Herein lies the finish to my story. With a bum front axle and Pendy taking up the avail. seat space I packed my bags and drove home.
Fun was had by all. It was good to get out and hit the trails again with old friends and new ones.

26 hours later and Jim and I made it back. Pictures and video to follow...
Bill is on the money, the only thing I'd add is that Pats' Revenge is harder than I've ever seen it and Twister is a bit nastier too.
Fun and lots of Mexican food had by all!

26 hours would be I-10 to I-20 from Las Cruces to Augusta, but I guess you could consider that a trail?
