I know a lot of the state is closed, but I need a wheeling fix. Is there any decent trails that are still open that are within a reasonable drive from Phoenix. Maybe something around Buckeye or so? Nothing hardcore, along the lines of Crown King/Telegraph, but definately with a challenge and need for 4low. Thanks

I found some wheelin open... hehehe I went to Speedway Raceway (http://www.speedwayraceway.com) today it it was SWEET!!! It cost 52 bucks for 2 races, a tshirt, member license, and helmet sock, but it was WELL worth it. That place rocks!

(As for "Real" wheelin, no. RHINO is right.. Build/modify rigs now.. That's pretty much it)

Buckeye Hills. - A few washes out there with some rocks to play on.

Some trails in the Whitetanks are technically open, but there is no way to get to them as the (easy) trails to get to the trails are on State Trust Land and therefore closed.

Some trails out by Parker.

Thats about it.

If you wanna drive a few hours everthing up here in the Farmington area is still technically open. Talked to the BLM rec guy about the possibility of closures, he said no way, they don't have the manpower to enforce it so they are not going to bother.

I'd urge you guys to be responsible and stay off the trails until they're officially reopened. Please do the right thing, it affects all of us.

The National Weather Service has released it's three-month outlook for Arizona, and it's
not good news. The short version: hotter and drier, little relief from th e drought. Not this
summer and maybe not even this winter.

The service said Thursday that drought conditions are likely to persist through
September throughout the state, with hotter-than-normal temperatures and possible
water shortages on the Navajo Reservation.

Forecasters say that it's hard to predict how much rain, if any, the summer monsoon
season might bring, but add that such storms do little to help the drought.

The outlook "does not bode well for the wildfire situation in the West, where conditions
are ripe for more fire activity," said John Jones Jr., deputy director of the Weather
Service. Wildfires have charred more than 118,000 acres in Arizona since Jan. 1,
compared with about 30,000 acres in 2001.

More ominously for the longer term, the service now says Arizona is unlikely to benefit
much from the developing El Niņo, an oceanic phenomenon that could boost the state's
winter snowpack and the Valley's 2003 water supply.

So what is the summer weather like? How do the trails compare to here, or say, the Hammers?
