I know Harley made some dirtbikes, but how long did they make them (like 1975-1985 or what?) Are they rare, and command high prices, or affordable? And how reliable are they?

Thanks

I foget the site, but the rate every dirtbike ever made. they gave the harley 1 out of 5 stars. The ratings were based on rideability, parts accessability, and personal opinion.
Parts are a bear, but you can get them.
Vintage bike boards are great for that.

LMK and I can help hook you up woth the right boards. I could never have built my Hodaka without them.

Personal opinion- to restore, they are pretty cool as a collector piece. To ride- probably not a weapon of choice.

The old Harleys suck.

Harley did not even build them. In fact I think the japs built them.

Buy an old Honda/Yamaha XR/DT/XL etc, etc slap a Harley sticker on it and you would have the same thing and a much better bike. nobody will now the differance.

They made the Baja 100 and they had a 250 mxer as late as 78. They had one that had forks on the back. They were made in Italy by Aermachi. And even earlier than that there was some other small 2 strokes, my dad had one. But thats all i can remember. i will search for some info. I remember a little more now, the one my dad had was a Hummer.

Yeah smurfs right - Harley did make their own dirtbikes from 52-66 and they were called a hummer. I have one - it runs but it needs a lot of TLC and the parts are expensive for it. If you do a search on E-bay for harley hummer there have been a couple of very nice ones sold recently. My .02- Buy a Honda

Harleys blow, end of story. They never have and never will make anything worth its weight in sand. Harley has a name, and everyone that doesn't know shit about bikes (which is the vast majority of people) thinks that harleys are great because they are using the american card. yeah, they are made in america and I would also rather buy american than foreign but harleys are so low in quality and so poorly, well I won't even say engineered because a someone that didn't even graduate highschool knew how to make a bike that would barely work and didn't test a single thing and didn't care to make it efficient or put out atleast a resonable amount of power for the size of the bike and the size of the motor. yada yada, I can't believe you would call a harley a bike. Harley dirt bikes blow even more. Italians make some pretty good bikes and some good parts for jap and american bikes but anything with the harley name on it is shit. they have been around for quite some time and can't figure out how to make power without using a huge ass cylinder. They can't make a bike that doesn't leak, or one that doesn't require excessive maintenance. They do paint shit real nice and make lots of nice chrome parts. Their street bikes don't handle, would you expenct an old school dirtbike from them to be able to handle? A kid I know has a harley dirt bike, I have seen it but never seen it run, only heard about it. He got it to the sand pits a few times and from what I hear it was a real laugh.
