I ripped a hole in my gas tank wheelin yestarday and I think I'm going to get a fuel cell to mount in the back of the 4runner. The question is, what size and style should I get ? It's a carbed 22r. The 4runner is used 90% of the time on the trail and driven to work 2-3 time a mo. I am also thinking of making it a buggy over the winter. The trail rides I go on are from 3-4 hrs to 3 days long. But for the 3 day events I can have gas back at camp. I may also go with a 22re at some point.

spend the extra money on the nice stainless steel tank, You can get them from Summitt or Jeggs, but DO NOT get the Plastic fuel cell, I have a plastic tank that is only 2 months old and the sun got to it and has sunk it in , and I probably lost 2 gallons of fuel space. Ill be replacing mine soon, If only I had spent $100 extra I would be set, so do it right the first time.:skull:

Plastic sucks, mine did the same thing! And the cap used to leak so when water collected in the sunken part at the top of the tank, the tank filled up with water.

There are plenty of Alluminum cells out there. Check Summit or Jegs. I ran a poly cell in my Toyota and it sunk in like the other guys said. I just ordered a 15 gal. alluminum cell for my Jeep from Summit.

Thanks for the info on the poly cells. I WAS going to get one of those but I think I'm going to use an aluminum one. Now what size, 10 gal. or 15 ? I'm not going to get the foam or a sender. If I want to know how much fuel is in the tank I'll just stick it.
how much gas do you need to carry? if you need 12 gallons i would not recomend a 10 gallon tank. :flipoff2: maybe spent a few minutes and thing aboub your needs and the decide what capicity tank would work best for your needs.
fyi. both jegs and summit have a huge selection of tanks. the plastic ones are fine as long as they also have the steel or aluminum outer can.

What advantage, if any, is there to the poly cell with the steel outer. You can get a 12 gal poly/steel for $160 or an alum. 15 gal for $154.
poly/ steel is what i currently have. i belieive it will take more abuse. i.e. rock hits with out bursting than an aluminum one.

I'm going to put it in the back of my 4runner, then over the winter I think I'm going to turn it into a buggy and will have it out of harmes way.
nothing in rock crawling is actually out of harms way. think about landing upside down on a large pointy rock. now what if that rock punctures your fuel cell and you are trying to get unbuckled while the fuel is leaking on your hot exhaust........................................... .............just things to consider.
