are they as valuable as some people make them out to be? i am leery of adding one but it does seem that a lot of high end "working" guns like the 10-8 and TRP have them. the loaded i have comes with a beveled magwell and that alone is an improvement over my USGI 1911.

any opinions one way or another?

I bevel the magwell on all my carry pistols but I don't add the OMFG huge funnel of a magwell extention so I can insert a magazine blind and by throwing it at it from across the room :D

I bevel the magwell. All of my pistols do double duty as possible carry pieces. An extended magwell is just a big signature.
I have played with an extended funnel on a 1911 and I can see having one on a competition gun.

cool. that's what i had thought. the magwell on my loaded is definitely beveled compared to my remington rand and it does make a difference. i was a bit skeptical about how much mo better an extended magwell would make. now i know. thx

I've got the huge one that was the style in the 90s for IPSC style race guns.

I question it now and am thinking of removing it. But I have gotten used to slamming magazines into the general area and having them get funneled right up in there nicely!

The STI 2011 runs above runs about $5k. The Glock, about 2k.

Was? If you're not shooting in Production or single-stack, you're still running one in USPSA.

there are companies making wells that weld on to the bottom of the frame after the frame has been cut down so that the overall length of the gun is unchanged. this does make a it a little harder to find grips but has little effect as far as additional size/weight.

the S&A one-piece mainspring housing/magwell/lanyard loop looks nice. i've been thinking of getting one and making it fit, but i really don't need it
