: Should I build my 59 F100??
Amanda G 11-02-2001, 04:41 PM Okay, the boyfs got a 59 f100 that he wants to $hit can to the junkyard. It will only take about $1000 to get it running. It need a new front end, a carb, and wiring. A few other minor things as well. The body is already beaten up, so it would be a total 'just for fun' rig.
My question is: Should I put the money into it??
The thing I like about it is that we already have it, so I dont' have to fork over 1000 or 2000 to get it. Just a few hundred every month to slowly bring it along.
Is it worth it guys?? Your opinions please.
Also, if you know of anywhere that might have some parts for cheap for an antique like this, please let me know!!
Thanks

gunracer1 11-02-2001, 04:57 PM i think the older the better i am think 1960s on back no smog to screw with and i can get classic tags so that takes out the inspection to at least in texas. some one stole my 49 willys wagon that i was going to make a convertable for a trail rig. i am still pissed about that one. go for it, but if i remember right that old ford is wide. mike
Keep It! It is too much of a classic to $hit can it. No smog in california, 120 inch wheel base , chop the long bed for rear over hang(you did say the body was beat already). The t-case is the Dana 24 (stout), Probably the T-18 4-speed. Swap in a big block and go mudding . Bottom line I think it's worth it if the frame is straight and the cab is not rusted out. Any way thats my .02

ranger 11-02-2001, 07:18 PM I'm usually a pack rat, I try to keep everything, but I would sheetcan that truck. Too hard to get parts for, and do you think you would ever get your moneys worth out of it. If thats a concern.
Look at it this way, if you didn't own it, and you saw it for the first time, how much would you pay for it? But then again, one persons junk is another persons treasure!
Didn't help at all did I?? Oh well, just my pennies worth!
66CJdean 11-02-2001, 07:29 PM It sounds like you already know the answer. I think it would be cool to see it on the trail.
WheelingPiazza 11-02-2001, 09:02 PM Heres my 2 cents worth
I say Do it.. Chop the bed, Get it on the trail..
If it need a front end find out what it needs if it will fit a d44 I am sure you could find one to replace whats on there..
ITs a classic but its worth a trail rig..
Amanda G 11-05-2001, 10:43 AM Thanks guys. I am still pondering this, I would appreciate more comments....

SHERPA 11-05-2001, 10:48 AM the 59' is one of the ugliest cabs ford ever made....... I'd say
keep some parts, or totally chop it. but as for a complete
truck, their just plain ugly.
Kendo 11-05-2001, 11:14 AM If you DO decide to get rid of it, let me know, I have a friend who has one (2WD version) and he might be interested in buying yours to do a conversion on his.

Amanda G 11-06-2001, 08:41 AM Aaron, yeah, this is my original log in name, it won't let me change it.....
And it has a motor...I believe it's a 390, not the original. Still not sure if I want to build it up though. The main reason this sounded good to me was that we already have the truck, no need to fork over a grand or 2 in the beginning THEN keep pumping money into it to make it trail ready. Aw well, I'll continue my thinking...

roverhybrids 11-09-2001, 06:47 PM I say junk it. Or better yet find some classic classifieds online and sell it. there are plenty of 4x's out there for cheap.
