Compression.

Propane will support BIG compression.

I'm talking like alcohol territory.

You'll need a new fuel system, from tank through carb.

Not worth it if you're not going to rebuild though. At least that's my opinion.

It will also run at any angle and you don't have to worry about a sloshing bowl ( assuming your carbed). It is cleaner burning, your oil stays cleaner longer and most see an increaase in mpg.

Cons: Its a new learing experience on tuning and availability of fuel is limited in some areas.

Have you read Lance's tech article (http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/propane/index.html) ? If not I suggest that you do, it is very informative.

I think that propane is great and would use it if I was building a vehicle from the ground up or had a carb that didn't work... but I have fuel injection so I don't. :D The ability to run higher compression is nice too, but you really only get the full benefit if you rebuild the motor (or at least shave the heads).

i run lpg and absolutly love it, the engine is built and it loves to get fed the propane. smells cool too. but yeah real lances article and from there its pretty easy to set up, no wires and just soem hoses. ive got gobs of power with it. jiMMy

Down here lots of people run it .

FOR.
Engine life
Cheaper
Will run at any angle
Correctly tuned you will not notice a power change .

AGAINST
The tank is a PITA on a SWB to put somewhere .That said they come in a variaty of sizes so you can hook up two or more tanks .The down side with the tanks is you can only fill them to about 80% ? full .
Hard to start from cold .Check your battery/alt .
Unless your engine can run on unleaded petrol you will have to change your valve seats and probably your valves .LPG does not cushion your valves/seats [some people just add a top end additive ] so valve reccession becomes an issue at high speed .
Your MPG will be slightly less but this is ofset by the cheaper price.

You can also run a system that will work with petrol and LPG .An adaptor is fitted to your carb .Switchable from the dash .The switch has three positions PETROL....OFF....LPG .When changing from petrol to lpg you MUST turn this to off and wait for the engine to start to stall then switch to lpg .If you run this system it is advisable to start the car on petrol from cold .This also stops all your gaskets and seals in the carb from dryiny out ,the biggest cause of problems with this set-up .Just run your heater hoses via the atomiser as heat is needed to change the lpg to a vapour .As the name implies LPG L meaning liquid .

Nearly all the people that run LPG will tell you that it is worth the effort .

Lots of info available down here.

Luke.

cool we will show you a good time. just make sure to bring all the spares you have. don't leave them at home.

In some areas, you can get an emmissions waiver if LPG only. Might be the only way to street license some vehicles. Seems like a good benefit under those circumstances.

BC is propane friendly.
$400cdn will get you everything but the tanks rebuilt OHG stuff.
they make tanks in every size known to man so the 'hard to fit' doesnt make sense.
if a gas tank fits so does a LPG tank.

100+ octane for the watered down propane is pretty good

I showed up with an empty tank, and noone would take me to the gas station to get fuel (my rig was hauled on a semi). Wouldn't really have mattered if I had gas, or propane. Fuel injection is for white trash welfare recipients. :flipoff2:

Lance.... you need to move to TEXAS. There are lots of cruiserheads out here who would give you the shirt off their back, least a ride to a place to get the bottle refilled. Good group!

Of course last time I was out, the group was waiting for me after lunch.... little did they realize the rest of my Gang (three boys 12, 12, & 9) had managed to EAT two days of food in less than one day, and I was off to Wally World to restock supplies!

PROPANE: No fuel spills! :)

I really like the idea of no fuel spills.

That has to keep the greenies alot happier.
