Does your truck plates suppose to cover 1. the truck 2. the truck and trailer? Do trailer plates suppose to cover trailer and the load. I have a half ton truck with 7000lb. Am I over weight pulling my jeep?

Inside of your door jamb there is a tag, it will have GVRW numbers for you to tell what your load rating is. Check your tires and see the max load, make sure it is not exceeded. You gan also google your turck I(ie 2001 chevy 1500 tow capacities) and find out.

in indiana, your truck plates are rated for your gvwr of your truck, and the trailer plates are rated for the gtwr of the trailer. Like the gvwr of my dodge is like 8900 lbs or something so i have 9000 pound plates on it, and my trailer is rated for 9000 pounds so i have 9000 pound plates on the trailer.

In Illinois, you plate the truck for it's weight, and the trailer for it's weight, and the two together are your max gross weight.
This goes right up to semis, then the truck plate carries all the weight.
My trailers have permanent semi plates. therefore, there's no weight attatchment to the trailer. My truck has 45,000 plates on it, and that covers the weight of the truck and the trailer.
