I did the full search and still have a quick basic question. I am looking at a set of 4.30 D44 gears from an Izuzu. From what I gathered I will be able to use these in a standard Scout D44 housing, but will have to use the carrier from 3.92 and taller gears. Is this correct, or did I misunderstand some previous posts? Also, will a basic full install kit for the Scout work?
Thanks for any knowledgeable answers and remarks.

D44 is D44 is D44
If you have 4.30 gears ,you need the 4.XX carrier. The install kits are the same.

Yes, but what about this:

"the 98+ Isuzu D44s use a thicker ring gear than normal and can be had in 4.10 and 4.30 ratios stock depending on transmission. because of the thicker ring gear however you have to use the arb for the 3.93? and numerically lower gears even tho the ratio is numerically higher. a few of the isuzu guys have run into this problem. IIRC the ARB for the Isuzu is the RD07. One person i know has converted it to full floater, but it took so much work i'm not sure it was worth it, tho it did save him when he blew a R&P in moab in october.

anytime you use the factory isuzu gears you need the 3.73 carrier in any d44

Gearman, you are da:nuke:
Thanks for the info.
Do you know if those gears are different in any other way?
I.e. will I need any special pinion seals etc.?
Thanks.

Thanks 'man. The bad news is that some f'ing jerk snaked me at the last second and won the auction. I was the only bidder for a long time and then to lose it like that sucks.
Hey Gearman, you don't by any chance have any of those 4.30 Isuzu gears lying around do you? They seem to be the ideal gear because it would save me having to buy an open case for a Lock Right. In the rear I am gonna run a spool so it doesn't matter.
Thanks again.
