I have a 1992 chevy k-1500 5.7 liter, 5-speed and i was wondering what all i would have to do as in gas lines, fuel pump, electrical, etc.. If i was going to put a 6.2 liter diesel in my truck.

electrical part is easy: starter cables, alternator cables are the same, just position little changes, diesel needs only one wire to run and another wire for cold advance... :)

Old wire what you have 12+ from ignition key to ignition coil in gas engine you just connect to the Injection pumps shut-off solenoid, when power is on, engine can run and when off, it shuts down...

cold advance needs 12v power, it goes to a cold advance switch in rear of left side head. and from there to injection pumps hpca (housing pressure cold advance) connector and hi idle "solenoid"

glow plug controller also needs some wiring, it needs same 12v that goes to shut-off solenoid goes to glow controller also, another wire comes from starter, one goes to indictor ligt in dash and one is ground... i found nice picture from google

i dont know if its easy or not to find flywheel for 5 speed to 6.2 engine.

orginally 6.2 is having mechanical lift pump, but you have electrical in tank, dont know how works with that.
diesel needs good fuel filter fitted before injection pump, usually to the fender or firewall, all hoses, fittings and connetions must in fuel lines be sealed well, your diesel dont like air leaks in fuel system, it just wont work, also diesel needs returnline to tank, and nothing else, this black can for gas fumes(name i cant remember now) you dont need anymore for engine, only fueltanks needs some breather.

6.2 diesel will take only some 3600 rpm and best power and mpg:s on hiway come at 1800 rpm, so look your gears for that purpose... i had 1250rpm at 55mph previously and all i got was smoke, hi engine temps and big fuel and oil consuption... i geared my axles so that now i have 1760rpm at 55 mph and eveything works just sooo much better now, less fuel, less heat, and im getting up the hills without my engine even notice it.

personaly i would go 4bt cummins or 6.5 turbo

but as for the fuel pump you can do away with the mechcanical lift pump and just run a regulator it takes some tuning to get i right but it works good we did that on my dads 92 f350 went from a 460 to a 6.9

as long as it isnt a military 6.2... otherwise good luck finding 24v parts!:D

why to use 24v parts when 92 k1500 aint 24v truck.... military 24v engine needs only 12v starter and shut-off solenoid to work.... and alternator but that he can use this cs-130 what he is having in old engine.

I would spend some time over at CK5 I think the have a wiring digram as a sticky in there Diesel section. You should also check out the Deisel place they have both been good to me and my 6.2 swap im rebuilding a 6.2 for the burb I just have some small stuff to work out and then its going in.

I had a 6.2L in my blazer and even after i put the banks turbo kit on it, it still didnt have the GO of a 350. I've never had much luck with the 6.2. Although they are relativly easy to wire. As long as they come with all the complete fuel system. becasue there is a fuel return pump that takes the extra fuel from the injectors and pumps it back to the injector pump. not too much plumbing. but something you might want to consider

I've got a 6.2 w/ banks turbo on my '91 burb, 6" lift and 35" baja claws and it runs good....and has lots of GO too. You can turn the pump up a hair...only do it in 1/8" increments though...otherwise you'll go boom (probably)...and no more than a 1/4 turn.

Check out http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/index.php

they helped me a lot with problems...and make sure you've got a clean fuel filter!! makes a world of difference in the lack of power vs actual power :)

i never read into the 4bt cummins but if i were to install it i would have to change tranny, and transfer when all i want, or have the money for is the engine now for the 6.5 i have also been considering it also.....

When i did the 6.2 swap in a 90 k2500, i used the in tank fuel pump with no problems.

I had the glow plugs hooked up on a solenoid and a switch, ditched the crappy glow plug controller.

I found the 6.2 manual flywheel on ebay, but think it was actually off a big block because i had to change the teeth on the flywheel to the course teeth for the diesel starter. So I'm guessing a big block flywheel will work, just change the teeth out (5 dollar part).

I turned the pump up a 1/4 of a turn and built the turbo setup, it definitely out performed the 350 tbi. On the dino i was putting out like 500 ftlbs and close to 200 hp.

i swapped all my cucv diesel stuff into a custom crewcab shortbed frame that was originally a gasser cab, it was real easy...the 6.2 will run real good in it and has great power for a street rig and mild wheelin. i've got a banks on mine and i just turned the pump up untill my egts started getting close to 1300 when in 4hi full throttle in blow sand(prolly @1/2 turn up on the pump). it'll smoke any stock or mild 350 in a rig of similar wieght, and it pulls as good as any big block i've had. i pull my one ton blazer on a 20' steel deck car hauler w/it all the time, and while its nowhere near as stout as a duramax, i'd say it will pull a/any tow rig 454 any day, and get better mileage doing it

all you have to do is get the right adaptor 4bts came in p30 step vans with chevy tranys

they are all off the shelf parts they even have motor mounts but good luck with whatever you do
