i am building a new motor for my trail rig. It is a 525 chevy big block stroker with 14:1 comp. I need a 1,200 CFM dominator and was wondering if any one had any tricks to make them more offroad friendly?

ok, is it just me, or does "trail rig" and "14:1 compression" and "dominator" even belong in the same zip code?

I have an idea to make it more trail friendly. Put it in a mud truck or hot rod and build a mild small block for the trail rig.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Dominators aren't for what you are doing.
If I might make a suggestion, go EFI.

Agreed.

I've played the game of a trail truck that had a roller 454 w/ 1050 Dominator & 44's and it doesn't work. Racing at mud bogs or playing in mud/swamps it'll be fun (if it doesn't stay hot all the time) but for trail riding or climbing it will suck - completely wrong application of cool parts.

no this is not a joke. i live in southeast ohio so its not really rockcrawling usually sloppy wet trails and big mud holes. Running the dominator on a big motor is no joke. As a matter of fact the big red chevy that was in top truck challenge with the 632 took off the accel fuel injection to go back to a dominator for simplicity and it still runs great. I was just wondering if there was anything you could do to a carb that big to make it more like a truck avenger?

the comp ratio is to high to run pump gas for fuel injection and the motor is to big to buy a kit to run propane. has anyone tried to run 2 770cfm truck avengers

Try two 770s on a tunnel ram that should work great on that motor.

My buddy ran one on his bbm when he used to mud bog and it was a screamer, I will be running one a 1050 on my big block chevy when it gets completed, I picked mine up off the internet for 200 bucks. I know you can get a off road needle and seat for holley carbs which is in the truck avenger carbs. Give holley a call or send them an e mail and they might be able to point you in the right direction.

What does a "truck avenger" act like?

What is "more offroad friendly"?

You do know that your engine will never idle slow or be able to be run at slow speeds for extended periods of time without overheating? You also know you cannot run pump gas?

If you want what I would consider an "offroad friendly" engine get a good ole stock TBI 350.

lets see...

8 bucks a gallon for race fuel to run 14:1

1 gallon of fuel per 400 feet, because you cant get it out of 1st gear with the guy in front of you that wont move and you have to keep the idle high to keep the motor cool enough, and keep enough oil pressure on the lifters to keep them from dying at low rpm.....

2 miles of trail....

5280x2
-------
400

26.4 gallons of gas.

yup, you better be a rich bastard

a 2 mile trail run will cost you $211.20

if i was to put a price on fun, i definately would not be into four wheeling. we spend money to see if we can break parts and tear S**T up, does this sound logical in any way? Definately not!!! stocks and bonds just are not near as exciting as hearing a motor scream at 7,000 RPM's as you rip threw a hole or up a hillor trail that no one else can make just to say "YEA THAT WAS ME THAT DID THAT!!" I'm not rich but I don't drink or do drugs so what money i save i use to get my high from four wheeling stuff too its limits!!!Ifv i wanted to save money i'd collect stamps!!!!!!
