I have a 73 Dana 44 8 lug & 85 Corp 10 8 lug.
I swapping rears from the sf 14 bolt to the FF 14 bolt. The FF has 4.10.
So im in the debate of change the gears in my corp 10 or rebuild the D44(u joints gone, needs rotors & maybe ball joints)
Which is a better axle?
what would you do?
and yes i know the d60 is the best. but thats only a choice if i find one for the right price.

also the FF needs brake work. am i just better re-gearing both axles to 4.10 or doing the swap

I think that the d44 and the 10 bolt are pretty much interchangeable as far as strength, and pretty sure most of the parts are as well. I would have to say that fixing the 44 will be less work and cheaper as well, then changing gears on the 10 bolt.

They are effectively the same strength wise. Just build which ever one you prefer and spend as little money as possible so you can save up for a d60. Regardless of which one you use make sure and install new axle joints, new joints help those axles live longer.

......just letting you know, this is covered all the time and it usually turns into a big arguement! Some people will tell you the 44 is better and others will say go with 10 bolt.

Here's an idea, take 2 pieces of paper and write 10 bolt on one and dana 44 on the other fold them up and put them in a hat and pick one. Then build from there :shaking:

agreed.

we have argued this into the ground. flip a coin. doesnt really matter.

mhe i like the look of a dana cover any day of the week. vote d44.
