I use a 12 volt 100amp alternator out of a dodge polaris and it works great, I run it seperate from my regular charging system though.I don't see ant reason that a 24volt one would not work
There is probaly some thing wrote up in the tech scetion about useing alternators as welders

I use a 12V 140 amp unit and it welds 3/32" rod great at about 1600 rpm.
I would think a 12V 100 amp unit would work fine as well at naybe 2500 rpm.
The 24V unit you mention should also work pretty well unless the voltage
ramps a little too high for a given current output capability.

You should get better penetration with the 24V. Do it and tell us how it works out.
