im starting my yj spring conversion and have a few ?'s. do i have to extend my frame?? i took a few quik measurements and it looks like if i move the solid mount that i can add longer shackles to compensate for the end length. im not extending wheelbase or doing shackle reversal. anything else i need to know ill really appreciate the input.

It isn't necessary to extend the frame as long as you don't do a front shackle reversal. The Trail Tough front kit is a great choice for this. In the rear, you need to move the front mounting point forward (2-inches or so as I recall). I added a short missing link to the rear as well. The big thing is you need to keep your tires centered in the wheel wells, and you have to move mounting points to do that (both of them, not just one). If you are a decent fabricator, it isn't hard. Just measure twice :D . If not, I would just buy the TT kit.

I am with you. I fabbed mine myself also. It is strong enough, and looks good too (well, in the dark that is :D ) I copied scwafish's design for the frame extension. Since you are not doing a shackle reversal though, what are you going to do in the front? Are you going to extend the frame and just not do the reversal?

What Is better if you are NOT good at making your own stuff, Trail Tough or Rocky Road's YJ Kit? Or are they same? And I heard that using front YJ springs on the back and the front was the best for flex, think this is good???

yj's all the way around and TT definatly

What do you think about the idea of using front YJ's all the way around on the zuk?

I think you'll be replacing your rear springs every month. I run rears IN the rear & I'm gonna put another leaf in because they're already starting to sag & wrap. BTW mine is a tin top model.
I made my own rear YJ conversion with a short little double shackle. I just made some boomerang shaped pieces to move the front mount forward.

You'll need some form of anti-wrap cuz that's what kills the springs. If you really wanna save your springs, Energy suspension makes competition bumpstops that are 4.5 inches thick and compress down to around 2 - 2.5 inches. Personally i'd leave out the bumpstops and milk those springs for as much articulation as i could. :D

what do you speak of, this articulation? Give a guy one trophy and he becomes master of flex.............:vader2: . I am your teacher Tone, and you are thwe pupal.:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

But you are right about the anti wrap :D

Tuskers been using a 5 leaf pack in the frnt with an extra leaf (6 total) and a five in the rear. It flexes great and that combo has held up well.

Are you talking rear, front or both here? I'm confused :)

The spring wrap is definitely what'll kill the YJ springs. I munched a set of 5-packs in the back pretty quickly. I was planning on getting a traction bar, so in the meantime I assembled a temporary fix, a pair of 6-pack springs (not  ) for the rear, made from all 4 leaves from the stock YJ 4-packs, plus a long (to increase the spring rate) and a short (to fight spring wrap) leaf from the stock YJ 5-packs. Not only did this cure my too-soft-rear-springs problem, but it also eliminated probably 80% of my spring wrap! This temporary fix works so well, it has become a permanent fix. There's just enough spring wrap to eliminate axle-snapping shock loads, yet not enough to hurt the springs, even with 4.57's and a 6.1 t-case. So far, I have had no problems whatsoever with the stock YJ 5-packs in front with the shackle reversal.

My six-leaf fronts are super flexy. My five-leaf rears have been slowly sagging out, so I recently added a sixth full-length leaf. It drove great on the road but a little too stiff for the trail. I am switching out the full length leaf for a shorter sixth leaf. I was thinking that would work better but wasn't sure. After hearing Zukiman, sounds like I am on the right trail.

Basic recipe John, but it works ! No poly, no missin links , 100 percent Suzuki, have tested various aspects of Japanese technology, not ready to move on.........yet :flipoff2: :D :D :D

You too one day will understand the power of the force that drives us.

Seriously, for a no gimick suspension, yours works very well.

when i put in my 44's i put on some yj's and put them directly under the frame in the rear instead outside the frame and it flexs better than a buddys on mine rig with the same setup but his are outside the frame. just alittle input.
