: Stolen at rubicon 4 July. (help)
TEAM X-TREME 07-08-2002, 11:19 AM Does anybody remember A tall guy that was asking for A meter so that he can find his electrical problems. While I was working on A friends rig in the box on saterday He came up to us and asked if we had one. So we lent Him A $300 meter in A case and a test light And pointed to him were we were camped in case we were not here when we came back. Well the guy never brought it back. So any help would be great. I cant believe you cant trust anybody to lend them something out there.
Any idea who it was or info on the rig?
BTT

TEAM X-TREME 07-09-2002, 09:58 PM Hey guys, this is the X-TREME part of the team. I love going to the Rubicon and then somebody has to go and do something really white trashy like stealing. Stay in the trailer park and off the trail.
To answer your question, they have no clue as to what the guy looked like and he walked up so no clue on the vehicle. They were just being nice. What a jerk. If anybody heard of anyone asking for any of that let me know.

Last year at the cleanup a guy walked up to our camp and asked if we had a socket for a dana 60 pinion nut. I loaned him my oversize sockets not certain which he needed. Anyway, after a few hours of scooping poop I returned to my jeep for a cold one, and the sockets were sitting on the front seat.
I'm sure there are dozens of other "good" stories, but it sucks when a bad one comes along.
inphobic 07-10-2002, 10:09 AM I was in Disney, OK the weekend of the WMS 44" meet and one of the guys lost his fuel pump for his injection sys on the trail. I told him he could borrow my spare to get it to the trailer and that I would meet up at camp to get it back. We headed on and played til evening and when I got back he was gone. I thought for sure dude had taken off with it since he didn't know where I was camped or what my tow vehicle looked like. Got to camp and it was sitting on my trailer. Awesome! Makes you feel good when things happen like they are supposed to. :flipoff2: to those who don't. wish we knew the offenders so we could sticker thier vehicle so everyone knows not to help them.... Good luck on finding your meter. Jake
bobbed83toy 07-10-2002, 10:34 AM when ever i go wheeling, i usually end up taking the top box from my tool set at home.. i have always been nice and let others use my tools, but ill tell you what, after what has been going on lately with people and there tools getting ripped off, i wont let anyone that i dont know use my tools unless i am standing right there so that when they are done, I can have them back... we all need to start watching out for peoples stuff it seems like... all these nice rigs being stolen and tools.. its just getting to bad.. dude i hope that you get your meter back, i know how expensive these things can be.. i assume it was a fluke?
It's funny that the only thing I ever worry about on the trail is my tools getting stolen.I have many expensive tools I take with me and I use them for work.I will tell you a cool story about honesty.I had a full length pry bar made by Mac and a 4 ft breaker bar from Snap-on slip out the back of my truck when a latch broke on the rear door of my sub.I drove for quite a while before the whole load of stuff in the back went for a dump on a hill.I realized the only things I didn't get back were my prybar and breaker bar. After putting everything back in the truck and doing a major tie job to the rear hatch I was ready to leave. This guy drives up and asks me if I lost anything.I said yeah the above tools. He asked for a slight description and I got the breaker bar back.I offered the guy beer but said it would have to wait for camp due to my packing. He refused and said no problem. Now I think that was very cool as the guy could have just driven by withour a word. That bar was worth $150 and he had just hit the jackpot.Unfortunatly the prybar didn't have a flourescent handle to stand out.Honesty isn't dead it's just to expensive to be trusted.I always return tools because I know what they cost and that they might be somebodies job.I will lend tools in a set group but if somebody strange asks I might say leave a drivers licence.I don't want to make money I just want my tools back. One way to make sure you get your tools back is to help.

Red Chevy Girl 07-11-2002, 04:12 PM ttt lets get this returned to him
coyote 07-11-2002, 06:50 PM Shoot the last time I let someone barrow a tool they broke it and I told them it happens, thinking nothing else would come of it I find a strange box at my front door a week later, the dude was a cop and had a partial plate and tracked me down to replace the socket....it will turn up eventually....just keep asking around....
Deltaskier 07-11-2002, 07:00 PM What kind of meter was it? I might be able to hook you up with a replacement, but it depends what it is.

I have my home tools and I have my loaner/trail/race track tools ( ones I pick up at auctions really cheap ) that way if they get lost/stolen/broke it is no big deal..
This is what I do when I lend out tolls on the trail or any other place....I hand the person a pencil and note pad to give me his phone #, name and Lic #, in case he forgets or I do unless I am right there. I have lost to much just lending on a promise.
I have lent tools and went off to do stuff and also had them sitting on my truck when I got back and one time a guy sent em to me in the mail since I had to get moving on...that was real cool and made up for some that I never got back, even sent a 10 spot to me....
Domenic 07-11-2002, 11:00 PM I'll let anyone use anything I have, What goes around comes around. I've been paid back many times:)

This is the BEST idea I've heard in a long time. If they compaline aobut not having their license you can just assure them that with this info you can keep in touch with them.
Or at least copy the address and Lic# off of their license as opposed to just asking them their info. ANYONE could lie about that.
