: Spring retainer by Interco?
Old Scout 07-08-2002, 11:22 AM I need rear spring retainers. What is the best way to go? Is the EE design the thing I should copy?
I found this Rover trash on the trail

Then found my rear spring rubbing on my tire. Looks like it was mine!

Easy driveway fix.

m016324 07-08-2002, 11:37 AM if you have a plasma cutter or a good torch I would recommend copying the EE spring retainer if you don't just go and buy 1/2" plate and cut some out with a chop saw and then drill some holes with a drill press really simple to make just takes awhile to mount granted the rears aren't nearly as bad as the fronts. I made mine out of 1/2" plate and they didn't take me and hr to make all of them.

ps I can take some pics if you want
Greg Davis 07-08-2002, 11:43 AM I'm using the EE retainers and have been very pleased. Very simple, elegant design. I could have copied them, but I figured I'd reward them for their efforts. Plus, I've had just too much shiatt to do lately, so it was easier to just call 'em up and order them.

JoshC 07-08-2002, 01:20 PM The Century looks great! Between wheelin, camping, and honey do's... I can probably make it out in 2004.
Would be nice though.

After my hose clamp retainers finally gave out, I made these.
http://student.fortlewis.edu/~alway/imagesway/springreatinersrearlower.jpg
And
http://student.fortlewis.edu/~alway/imagesway/springretainersrear.jpg
The top plate has two holes punched in them about 3.5" or so apart. On top of the holes I welded two weld nuts to the plate. When I installed I put the weld nuts towards the ground. The nuts hold the upper plate from moving inside of the spring retainer hole. The straps (upper one hidden in this picture) are made of 1/4" plate with a 1/2" bend or so on the ends.
The lowers are the same 1/4" strap with ends bent. I 1/2" strap (again hidden in this picture) is below the visible strap. This prevents the strap from bowing when tightening when installing.

Oh yeah mine are 3/8" discs on top

What do I have to do to get adopted?
If it helps my case :
I'm house trained [sort of]
I wont eat much
I even like Internationals
I'm pretty ugly so I can double as a guard dog
and I'll even stop doing that thing with small furry animals if it helps .
Luke .

road1will 07-09-2002, 08:09 AM hey bob, our dogs look exactly the same, outside of coloring! :D
i cant decide if my pup (Cowboy) is a purebred Cattle Dog, or half border collie. colors would indicate BC, but he looks and acts 100% cattle dog!

Old Scout 07-09-2002, 09:18 AM Looks like I may have to lock this thread!:flipoff2:
m016324 07-09-2002, 08:26 PM hate to put the thread back on track but I'd definately make them from steel I have bent the stock ones several times well enough to actually bend them where they weren't retaining the spring. I can show you some pics if you'd like very simple and very strong. I can even show you a pic of a broken one probably in the shop somewhere.
-ben
definately go with 1/2" bent some smaller ones

Ben,
I agree.
My stock one bent again last weekend, and I maxed out my hi lift (plus 12" of rock) just to get the fricking spring back in and to straighten the bugger on the trail. Can you email me your pics?
