Nothing Scout related this weekend... Did some serious cleaning in the back yard on Saturday, and replaced some light switches throughout the house and repaired some drywall. We are trying to get the house ready to sell. Ive got my eye one a chunk of land north of PHX. The house is 1700 sqf, and the shop/garage is 2400 sqf.

SAT: took apart my 350 washed it cleaned it, started to put the pistons back in, but they had something different on their mind... didnt get one installed:(

SUN: took a closer look why they wouldnt go in, found out the ring set kragens gave me was the wrong set... they didnt bother to inform me that there are two different types of ring depths... a .200 and a .165 and they gave me the .200 set so i got absolutley nothing done this weekend... :(:mad3:

Saturday:
-Got new gas tank for Scout II
- Went to a country western concert with the Just IH club. Kelly Hughes (the leader of the Kelly Hughes Band, just bought a Scout 80 on a Scout II frame) wanted to celebrate his new purchase with a concert.

Today:
-just went "webwheeling"
-Went to the new Cabela's in Post Falls
-And to HF for some cheap one time use tools

Was raining, so I couldn't drag the rear axle out to wire wheel it and paint it black

Got a lot done for a change. Helps to be in town and have Friday off!!

Pick up a set of Suburban rear springs to supplement my current rear GM spring setup. I added a leaf and used the full sized overloads too. I wire wheeled them and painted them with EZ slide grapite paint. Finshed installing the front grill and took the Scout out for a drive. The new engine is running good and the rear spring setup is much better. Its amazing how many old leaf springs it takes to hold up a Scout.
Junked my poision spyder rear tire carrier idea and started bolting the mud flaps to the bumper. Can't drive very much in the rain without getting a ticket.

SUN- Put another power bar on the side of the work bench so I dont have to keep reaching for the exten cord. Thursday (Saturday): Pulled out some busted U-joints on the DD diesel Scout. Things have been making noise for over a month now, but when I did the "parked see if the drive shaft wiggles" test it was solid. Decided to pull it anyway and was greeted by these!! Maintence, what the hell is that!!:laughing:

Friday (Sunday):Went and crashed Binderbound's FI trouble shoot party him and Uglyscout were throwing. I basically stood around, got in the way and shouted out useless suggestions. Also, dinked around with MajorScrewup's Cummins that destin for a Traveler sometime. Even got the damn thing running on 2 cylinders. All in all it was a couple of good hours of wrenching and bs'ing.

I finally got home from Iraq the friday before last. So this weekend -after getting a lot of my crap in order last week- I just spent the time looking in the papers for a new daily driver, and scouring ebay for a new welder. Today I am going to clean out the garage and haul the old 345 to the Junk yard. Im just tired of working around it. Other than that, its trying to get back to my civilian life again...

That's easy, go get a Hydro boost off a diesel Suburban, Pickup, Van and send it to [COLOR="Cyan"]Vanco (http://www.vancopbs.com/category_s/66.htm) and for $180 have him rebuild it and valve it for Hydro assist too.
Maybe a couple bucks for the right length rod and the hard part is done. If your not adding Hydro assist then you could just find a good looking astro van JY setup. I thought this was all in the FAQ, obviously not.

**********my update***********

I actually started my rig up...TWICE...Oh My! Recording has slowed on my CD project coupled with great weather this weekend. Since I had my boys as well it just seemed like the right thing to do. So I charged the battery and vaaaa-roooom, tickety, tickety, tickety...

The girlfriend and I filled out an application on a rental house...we have been loosely looking for a few months now. This one seems to be the ticket. A Garage, side yard with double swinging wood fence gate...I might actually be able to work on my rig when I want to...again Oh My!

Looks like I will be able to contribute to the tech again soon...

I already picked up the GM hyraboost unit... but was fighting the "corvette" master cylinder idea. It has same size chambers on it and made for power brakes with disc/disc.
The CJ7 already has the PSC ram, pump, and box mounted and plumbed. Was concerned about ram sizes, -6AN fittings $, and possible "re-valving" the hydo unit $. Firewall mounting looks easy, so does the hose routing, pedal linkage, just more fabwork....
Got most of my ducks in a row, but research first.:grinpimp: Ran into the rod length yesterday since I bought the 67-68 Corvette master cylinder 2 months ago when I was leaning towards vacuum boost.
I really need more $$$ from the owner. He just doesnt realize what it takes to build a dependable rig, and how much time is involved.:shaking:

Loaded up the Jeep with all the stuff that came with ChiScouters' trailer that i already took back. Did something to my shoulder whil I was lifting the aluminum ramp up top. Visited with ChiScouter for a bit, then came home fully wanting to go to Branik and help with the racers, but they had closed up shop by the time I got there.

Sunday my shoulder and back were sore from yesterday's overhead lifting, so I stayed home and played with my new old guitar and surfed a few forums.

Finished up most of the small details on the rear axle except the brake lines. I mounted the rear disc brake / caliper e-brake cable bracket, flushed the truss to the perches and installed the rear diff cover. Took a wire wheel and degreaser to it and finished it all off with POR15 and POR15 chassis coat black. I also installed new poly bushings in my stock springs.

Got some work done around the house too, installed the el-cheapo outdoor speakers in the garage, it is nice to have some music out there again.

it's a 98 2500 with about 180K on it. got it for about a grand. they said it lost compression on one cylinder but i drove it all over Sunday and it runs nice. i got it with the intention of swapping everything into the scout but after driving it i might just register it and DD it to save miles on my nice truck.

I just made a quick spreadsheet to compare my guzzling 8.1 gasser chevy to your dodge (after the fact) to see what the difference was is gas consumption ($$)...
I figure I saves about $6000 going gasser vs diesel in used puchase price...
numbers played out that at around 35,000 miles from now I will eat that $6,000 savings and be at a wash.
I hope it will last that long withou any issues, thats likely 4 years for me.

note: my 8 mpg vs your 17mpg.

Well, are you considering diesel is $.50 MORE than regular gas and I bought my truck new? On the other hand, I get closer to 20mpg all the time. I vary from 19.3 to 20.5 per tank (empty).

You can pick up a mpg or two by switching to synthetic oil, intake upgrade, and highway tread tires.

Side note- I spent all my money yesterday :(

Last weekend I did my first event with LiveNation Motorsports at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia and I managed to roll the truck during cyclones and smashing the front clip up pretty good. I was able to pump the oil from the cylinders and have the truck running for the evening show where I ended up washing the rings out of the motor during the cyclones at the end of my run! Stopped the event so they could air out the coliseum from the smoke.SO, I will have yet another new motor in a few weeks and it will be even better then the Vortec was!

Wow..those 502 gobble gas. My F250 gets 11 towing the scout.

Don't forget to calculate the cost of gas and oil-changes into your spreadsheet. When I did that, it would have taken 100K miles to be a wash between my gasser and a PSD/CTD rig.

In my oppinion, it wasn't worth the expense.

Yeah, it was alot of fun. I was however, banned from doing cyclones at the Richmond event after the "smokeout" in Richmond. I told them I had a new engine but they were concerned of extra work to clean up any spills resultant of a rollover so I was severly restricted as to what they would let me do. Still a great time and with a few upgrades I hope the restrictions will be lifted. I hear that I might get invited to perform at the Grave Digger camp in Killdevil Hills, NC!

- I used $3.10 gas vs 3.80 diesel (just guessing, it fluctuates too much)
- Did not include increased amount of interest payments...
- Did not consider oil changes, etc
- Also, I work from home so sees little mileage

If I had room, i would just get a beater 80's 3/4 ton with a 350 and call it good, but this rig hauls kids to the skatepark too.

I should have bought your wagonmaster instead...

Think about if you are interested in welding in my doors and making a cutout arrangement like the TTC scout up lately, I could cut my plexi to fit the hole and then be street legal-ish once again. It could be a mid-summer type project if I can save up the pennies. will need to patch over my smashed back door jambs at the same time (just to cover the gap, not a bondo job by any means since I still don't know how to stay off the trees)

Are you going to spill the beans on the purchase? I'm guessing it's mx related.

Funny you say that. I used the money to pay off 99% of my revolving debt. But, my bike is also for sale because I have decided to make the step to the next level and start racing again. My XR400 is by no means a race bike. I rode Terry's pro prepped/built WR450 and that sealed it for me. A buddy has an older 426 that will make a good entry level Hair/Hound and desert bike. Put a season in on that and then graduate up to a new 450.

Let me know when you want to get started on that door project.

That's what I was planning on doing, but there is already a hole in the bottom and it is bigger than the diameter of the shifter. So, it looks like I'll have to weld a nut on the bottom to attach them to the shifters.

its really hard to drill the bottoms of them. I tried for my shift knobs. I just ended up building up the shift lever and using a nice amount of jb weld to make the difference hasnt failed yet.
