: SOA with YJ stock spring pack recipes.
Recurve 07-08-2002, 02:53 PM Did the freakin search and got some good info.:flipoff2:
Would like to get a thread going with everyones stock YJ spring pack combo's and ideas. Anyone use combo's other than 2 sets of YJ spring packs. Anyone use any leafs from arched springs? I have both. Also looking for ideas on disassembly/assembly with regards to clamps, centering pins etc. Thanks for the help.
90wrangler 07-11-2002, 07:32 PM i have a 90 wrangler and i sprung over my jeep with 4 inch procomps, but ended up beeing really stiff(duh). so i took out some of the leafs and now it sits nicely and even flexes great. and i came out with springs that are about 2.5 inches of lift and it is not to tippy(and i should know becasue i'm 16 and i just got my license:flipoff2:) and as for the claps they are a bitch, but all i did was take out the springs that wern't in the claps and so far that has work great. FOr the center pins when you do your spring over you have to flip them, so all you have to do is take a c clap tighten down, then losen bolt and flip center pin really easy
Recurve 07-11-2002, 09:10 PM Thanks for the reply but right now I want to run flat springs since I won't have wider axles and 33's is the biggest tire I'll run because of motor and gearing. I've got everything together to build springs like WheelingPiazza described and that is probably what I will build. I've read a bunch about it. I will also have a set of arched springs at my disposal and was just wondering if anyone had used leafs out of them to add to stock springs. I read where one person had done that. I will also be on the lookout for CJ Laredo rear springs.
I am aware that the center pin is flipped. I was looking for info like upgrading them from 5/16 to 3/8. I did that upgrade to my existing pins 'cause the stock 5/16 were bent up and I was gonna have to run a shim until I got my driveline completely finished. I'd like to be able to find a 3/8 centering pin that didn't have to have the "head" modified. As for the clamps I will probably open them up and add a bolt to them. I don't have a torch capable of heating the clamps up enough so I was looking for more info so that I can make sureI can dictate to whoever helps me do that what needs to be done.
papabear 07-11-2002, 10:20 PM I have stock rear spring packs front and rear on my spring over with a full length add-a-leaf that I had made at a local spring place. It is holding up well so far and flexes pretty good even with the spring clamps still on.
chadl 07-12-2002, 04:54 AM my rear packs are skyjacker 2 1/2" lift, with the bottom two leafs removed. The fronts are the same lift springs with the bottom leaf removed. The lift is about 1" over a stock spring over. The are also really soft, I haven't gotten the jeep off road since doing the SOA, but I'm worried about sagging, but if it happens, I'll probably start putting leafs back in, if that makes it too stiff, I'll try to go another direction.

Slagburn 07-12-2002, 03:18 PM XJ/YJ half'n half with XJ main leaf for offset.
7 hard trips under the front of a 4400lb pig, no sag yet. They wrap like a mofo.
ChadLloyd 07-12-2002, 06:04 PM If you want flat springs than that is fairly easy, I'm running stock YJ with doubled mains (another set of stock springs, use main leafs, cut eyes off), 6 leafs in all 4 corners, my packs are pretty much perfectly flat.
I have 4.0, 435, 203, ebd20, so my drivetrain might weigh differently than yours, but I think that is the simplest, easiest, cheapest way to start. Flexes very well - too well, I should not have cut the clamps, too much front axle wrap. has not sagged too much. Must have rear axle wrap bar, it's been a lot better since I put one on.
HTH.
Devil Dog 07-13-2002, 02:00 PM my front springs are "rear cj"... my rear springs are "rear yj".. works great with 35" tires and some liberall fender cutting..
for the clamps.. i used a vice and a big pry bar... then a hammer and a block of steel behind the clamp.. took some beating and vice work.. but they are straight.. no bolts at the top.. and i dont have a problem with the leaf's coming out..
i also took my front yj springs and used the main leaf... cut the bushing ends off.. and put that as my second leaf in the rear..
for the cj springs i just removed the clamps all together.. about once a week i have to beat the springs back into alignment.. they like to fan out alittle.. no big deal..
as for the eye bolt.. i just used some case hardened bolts stainless nylon lock nuts..
B.A.R.K 07-14-2002, 09:12 AM i run stock YJ's all around with the second leaf out of my old superlift pack, nice amount of flex but nothing jaw dropping
Insayn 07-14-2002, 10:37 AM I took the main leaf and cut the eyes off it, slid it under the main leaf of the user pack and then took the longest leaf and put it on top of the pack to aid in spring life due to wrap and inverting. I had to get some longer pins and went to Lowes for grade 8 allen head bolts.
To get the leaf into the pack I opened the clamps with a pry bar till they were loose enough and tapped the leaf in with a hammer. I then beat the begeezus out of the clamps to close them back up. They last for a decent amount of time compared to these damn Wago springs.
Jeepmangled87 07-14-2002, 01:59 PM I use stock YJ springs, with Rancho ADD-A-leafs, they work ok.Im going to save up and buy some Alcans and be done with it.:skull:
