It can, and has, been done. If you have the full donor toy truck you have a head start. I'm running a vw diesel in front of a toy tranny and tcase. You'll need to widen the tunnel some, not a big deal. Engine and tcase mounts will be up to you. Using the stock toy tcase mount and some 2x4 C channel is the easy way to do it. Or run a FROR center section and add some arms to that for your tcase mount.

The nice part about diesel swaps is once they're physically in, you're almost done, as the fuel and electrical systems are pretty straight forward. I used the stock main and return fuel lines, and removed the vapor/vent line, whatever it was...I forget. Removed the stock in line filter, and added a good fuel filter up in the engine bay on the firewall.

Pull the zuk drivetrain, pull the toy drivetrain, and start dropping it in. Clearance issues, and other things that need to be addressed will become pretty obvious. Take it one step at a time, and you'll be fine. Oh, and if you ever pull into a full serve station, be prepared to have your work cut out for you convincing the pump jockey that your truck does indeed run on diesel, and they're not going to ruin your engine by filling it up...maybe I should remove my "unleaded gasoline only" sticker above the filler???

I think it'd be easier to build the toy into a wheeler. Unless of coarse the truck is junk or has paperwork issues.

Ya, it would definitely be easier. But what fun would that be? Tons of people have built toys. Granted, not many diesels, but still. That, and you get away from (some of) the frame and body rust in the toys, and lose a bunch of weight while you're at it, removable top, folding windshield etc. The HP of the little diesel also does a better job of pushing a zuk around than a toy, in my opinion.

It is a good point though.

the only thing wrong with the toy is that the whole frame is rusted out. i just want to have something different then all the other zuks up here

Another option for going the easy route would be to keep your eye out for a non running, non diesel toy, and drop your engine/drivetrain in that one, and then build that. Even just a clean frame to swap everything onto.

That said, I still don't think swapping the full gear into a zuk would be too bad. Quite a few 22re powered zuks out there. Should be about the same procedure, physically, but no wiring to deal with.
