Has anyone done it and is it a cheap option?
I think my block is fine. no leaking.
It runs good but at high RPMS there is some vibrations inside.
I think that something is loose but other than that it runs fine.
Anyone got any experience rebuilding these things?

that's a waste of time if i ever heard of one, unless you're going for the strictly stock aspect.
i'd replace it with a 2f or even better yet, a small block chevy V8!;)

Even on a budget? I have not had a lot of luck finding cheap engines.
I have a very small budget!
Could it be Rod Bearings or main bearings? How hard would it be to replace these in the F?

The standard F motor is 3.7 litres (I know, dont give me the metric crap!) the 2F is 4.2 litre, the bigger the better!... plus parts are more available. If you have a good motor rebuilder a 2F is the cheaper solution vs the V-8. the 2F puts out way more torque vs the V-8 and weighs 500lbs. more! Us hicks in the ATL prefer the 2F.... If you want the long story email me......

AG40 who are you? Are you an LSC member?
I have several F's, if you are on a strict budget........ wheel it til it blows, unfortunately with these it happens with little warning, my daughters dropped a valve with no warning, top of it broke off, the lower went thru a piston.....still ran, not too good tho. Holler at me if you need one, in the meentime find a buildable 2F and start on it.

Butch,

I Think I need to slow the timing down. I originally set it without taking of the vacum(green horn mistake), But it seemed to run fine. I noticed last night that The haynes Toyota Land cruiser book says that
"It may be found that minor adjustment is necessary to prevent 'Pinging' from the engine when laboring or , when low octane fuel is use: in this event retard the engine slightly"
Could this be the problem I am having?
Do I just have timing set to fast?

You can find parts truck with f-motors cheaply. I paid $300 for my motor with 40K on it. One of the good things about living in a rustbelt. Lots of low milage plow trucks.
As for the F motor, I had a friend rebuild a f-135 (64) and wished
he had started with a little bigger motor. He has $1200 or so in parts and machining, but it cost a lot more to finish it.
I know a lot of people love the 2F, and maybe I am in the minority, but I have had more friends with 2F problems and more 2f failures than those of earlier (68-74) f-motors. They just seem a little more durable. The 2F is a bigger bore, and a more powerful engine, but as long as I can find emissions free low milage f motors for a few hundred bucks, that will be my swap of choice.
To answer your question, if you are a purist, and want to stay toyota, rebuild and beef up a 2F. If that is not important to you, tough to beat the cost of a reman long block chevy V8.
