It seems to be 50/50 everywhere on these two trannys. Same amount of people love em and hate em. I have to choose one for the s10 by saturday so i figured acouple more thoughts wouldn't hurt. I'm gonna run the 350motor with 35 inch tires, And do sfa conversion this summer. before i blew a gasket on the tranny(th350) I was getting 19 mpg, so mpg isn't a problem at this point with a three speed. Weekly i drive town and on weekends i drive on the highway 2 go wheeling. The s10 has a 4 inch suspension lift so if i go with 700r4 i dont know if the rear drive shafts gonna work. It's a two peice.

700r4 has a lower first gear, I'd go with that.

Your drive line should be exiting your transfercase.
700 has better 1st gear, OD and torque converter lockup.
If your going 700, look for a 87' or newer.

ill throw a vote for a th350. have had great luck with one. had one in a k5 blazer for like 5 years with 38s with no problems, also i look at the simplicity of things, the th350, no worries about the lock up or any electrical, just one vacuum line and itll go. also a th350 is half the price to rebuild down the road.

the only benefit of a 700r4 is that lower gear. if this is gonna be a trail rig you dont really need the overdrive.

If you already have a 3 spd why not just go to a th 400 and never have to worrie about your trans?

i am going to throw in a vote for a 700r4. i just had to rebuild mine but i beat it for 6 years before i had to build it. and it was only a mildly built 700, it was built for what i used to do with it 35" tires and wheeling every once in a while to now. i am not going to list my stuff now because its on my signature. but anyways i would go with a 700
