SEARCH (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=191501&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending)

Also:
Whaddaya wanna do w/ the battery.
Do you have a winch? Compressor? Inverter? Lotsa blingin' rice lites?

If you don't have a bunch of crap you want to run w/ the Jeep off go w/ red.

Mr. Kilby, man of 29 post... Newbie himself....:flipoff2:

I got 4000 watt peak inverter... 12 compressor, Couple lights, no winch (Gotta Hi-Lift)..... I don't believe I need the power that the yellow puts out...? Just like the idea of having a yellow....!

SEARCH...... you do a SEARCH on Optima Battery.... All ya get is a bunch of posts that state "I put a red top optima in my CJ" ... sorry to encroach on your valuable time.....

I'm sorry, but $150+ for a battery you won't use is re-fawkin-tarded.

If you don't have a bunch of shit running w/out the motor... I don't think you'll benefit from the deep cycle battery.

oh... yeah, back atcha :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I have a friend that runs two yellow Optima's in his CJ, he doesn't use his winch much, and has had several problems with the batteries, none on the trail, or while driving, but if his Jeep sits for more than a week, both batteries dead. Prolly not the batteries fault, just the only Yellow Optima experience I have. One of my club members runs a singel red Optima in his CJ, and uses the begezes out of his 8274 Warn cuz he refuses to get locked in the front and drives like a tool, he's never had a problem, but he's also got a GM large case alternator built for 140 amps. I plan on running one 12V red and two 6V reds (space concerns with my short-nose front clip) in my YJ, when I get around to it.

Hummmm.....

I get it now...

Good point...

All my stuff will be running in conjunction with the motor/alt....

Now i'm leaning toward the exide orbital.....

With this info... I have narrowed it down to either the Red top or the exide orb....

Hopefully Exide will be around for the long haul... They did file chapter 11 a few months ago.

Everyone is trying to convince you to get the yellow one, but I noticed that most of them seem to be from Cali. I don't know how cold it gets in Ohio, but (being from northern Minnesota) I'd advise you to avoid the deep cycle if you routinely need to start your Jeep in subzero temperatures. Deep cycle batteries produce far fewer CCAs.

If it's just a summer Jeep and you do lots of winching then, by all means, get the yellow top.

HTH,
Jake

Probably very good advice. My yellow works good in the sub freezing 60 degrees here on a CA morning  :flipoff2:

Laughs like...

"WHAT? You want me to turn over this frozen solid 14:1 big block? Ha, Ha, Ha, No way, I'm going back to sleep"

...or laughs like...

"Cold cranking amps? Ha, Ha, Ha, we don't need no stinking cold cranking amps, I'll drive this heap twenty miles on starter alone, uphill, through 48" of snow, -75 wind chill, no problem."

i run a winch and a single red top with no problems. i had origionally planned on a dual battery setup but i have since decided that it is unnecessary.

Goddamn Pottsy my mom moved to Ohio and weirded out on us now I now why. I mean seriously I have no idea what your running on that battery but if it was a lot of amps you wouldn't even consider the red or the yellow. You'd be tired of running down the red and have gotten yourself the yellow.(Maybe Exide I don't care)And then you and Kilby start cackling over it like a couple of hens. Get the yellow so we don't have to worry about you OK. Everyone will sleep better you have the money right? So next time you open your hood you can look at your yellow top with your buds and sport a chubby and all sigh together man that's a good battery. :goofball:

I killed a Sear Die hard in April while on the winch cable on the last winch hill of Axle Alley. Talk about fucked. I found an Autozone in town that had a Blue Top Starting for $129. It must have been a typo or in the computer wrong, but I snapped that up pronto. Sears gave me a free Die Hard cuz there's was under warranty. Love the Blue top.

A freind of mine did tests on alot of batterys for the TV shows. They needed batterys that could run on Ilands where they were filming shows. They did not want to run generators. He also talked to a lot of battery MFGs. Final out come, Yellow top came out on top. (1) It will out hold, red and blue tops before it drops off. If a optima gos dead, it will have a draw from some were in the system. I've also had a talk with the optima guys, and they said they are having lots of problems with the reds going dead.
