I am trying to figure out a fuel system for my truck.
I am thinking a blazer tank between the frame rails would be a good choice. I would like an in tank pump. Did the blazer tanks have that? If so will the pumps that fit in them pump enough fuel for my 8.1L? Can someone school me on these blazer tanks? thanks

I would be looking for a newer suburban pump. If you are running the stick injection, you will need more psi than the blazers with TBI pumps put out.

snowbird is right. a tbi pump wont create enough pressure to support the multi port fuel injection that the 8.1 has stock. What I would do is make friends with a parts store guy and see if a later style in tank pump will fit in a 90 to 91 31 gallon full size blaser tank. Most of the lock rings are the same diameter so if the hole in the 91 blaser tank is the same is the same as the diameter of the pump you are putting in then all you have to worry about is the fingers on the pump ligning up. even if they dont you could probably grind them off and get away with it. I just finished putting the same tank in my 76 2500 and it fits great. you could also get away with a 41 gallon suburban tank if you want more capacity but then you have to remove the rear shock mount on the frame and go to diy4x for there shock inboarding kit. also it hanges down quite a bit lower. for listing on the tanks check out lmc truck they have all the different sizes listed.

The pumps themselves aren't going to matter. They attach to the whole sending unit/float arm. So what you need to compare is a TBI pump to the 8.1L pump... and see if the newer one will fit, or can be made to fit :D on the older arm.

The Blazer tank is an excellent idea, or the Burb tank, which is bigger. I'll be adding one when I do my diesel swap, for 3 tanks and a grand total of about... 75gal. :D

When i was putting my 96 Vortec 5.7 in my Blazer. The sending unit/pump assembly dropped right in the tank, and worked. Not sure if this pump will feed the 8.1 but, just some food for thought.

What did the fuel pump come from?

I was looking on alldata and an 8.1 requires 56-62psi. Same as a 96 5.7 from a k1500. So as long as you were using a 96 stock type pump I think I should be okay.

The vent and return line is all plumbed into the pump unit right?

Also what year is your blazer you put that pump in? I was looking at jegs and summit for fuel cells and saw they carried replacement tanks for the blazer as well. They had about 6-8 different ones if I remember right. all the way up to 40 gallons:eek: Nice to have that much gas, I just wouldnt want to pay to fill it

The rear shocks were orginally atached to the outside of the frame rails. No shocks in the rear as of yet so I can deal with those when I get there.

Why do you suggest a 90-91 tank? Is there something about it that would make it better suited to what I am doing?

My pump came out of a 96 Extended cab Z71. And i think that makes a difference because a friend of mine did the same thing useing one out of a single cab long bed and his sending unit had to be modified to fit in his tank. My blazer was a 84.

Yes, the vent, return, and the wires for the pump and gas gauge all go into the top of the sending unit.

Hell, if you lived closer you could have it, i'm not useing it anymore.

ok well I went to the JY today to see what I could find. Found a suburban tank in great shape. I believe its the 40 gallon tank based on the measurements. I measured, calculated cubic inches then converted that to gallons and got 40.87435983475 something gallons. So it looks like they all used the same type locking ring from mid 80's through late 90's (approx). The sending units are all very similar. Differences being 3 line and 4 line sending units. Length for the different capacity tanks. And the pump that atached to the sending unit.

I think if I get a sending unit for the tank I have, then get a pump from a later model that required 56-62psi I will be set. I did pick up a sending unit with pump for a 91 and the 06 I got my 8.1L from. I know the 06 wont work. Its too big. But I might be able to pull just the pump off it and atach it to the older sending unit. I will see if I can make it work tomorrow or the next day.

Good to hear, man.
