What is the lowest possible ratio that can/should be run in a dana 44 / 12 bolt combo. This will be run with a GM Goodwrench crate 350, SM465 and an NP205.

I am thinking 4:88 is about as low as I would feel comfortable going, however I hear about people running 5:38, and 5:89. Is the pinion a lot smaller with these??

Anybody got pics of the pinion difference between a 4:88 pinion and a 5:38 pinion or 5:89??

THANKS!

I'm running 5.38 in the Dana 44 in my Jeep, OX locked with a SM420 and a NP231, no problems, but it's all powered by a 4cyl. I can't remember, but 5.38 might be the lowest match for the 12 bolt. The Dana 44 5.38 pinion is way bigger that the 4.88 Dana 30 pinion and I've seen those take some abuse, I think the 297 axle joints will break before the pinion
