Will this work with a late 70's Ford 5-lug d44? I need to do something with my steering for SOA. My initial thoughts were to find two flat-top knuckles and do a hi-steer, but I do plan to put 60's under it one day, so I would rather wait to spend that money on the 60 front.

crusty1007 03-01-2008, 09:59 AM Ive got one in my garage. If its the one I think your talking about, its for use on Yj/Tj with the D30/D44 unit-bearing knuckles. It wont work. It doesnt work on Tjs either. it hits the coil spring a few degrees into a left turn.
The reason it wont work on your D44 is that you dont have unit bearings (where the studs go through the knuckle is where 2 holes get captured) plus it relys on you flipping the tie-rod and capturing the rod end.
Get the highsteer knuckles.
dan95yj 03-01-2008, 10:06 AM oops, sorry, wrong link. http://bluetorchfab.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=66_29_30&products_id=122
It say it will also work with tj d30/d44.
Well, i may just find one flattop for the pass side and do a crossover setup for now.
If i do this, I should be able to easily add another knuckle/arm to the DS and do a hi-steer setup later if I decide to, correct?
**on a side note, I have been lurking on pirate for a year or so, and Finally decided to buy a red star. How long does it take for it to appear beside my name?
crusty1007 03-01-2008, 10:19 AM It wont work on the early style D44 without unit bearings.
Use 1 highsteer arm for now to do crossover and then do the driver side for true highsteer later.

instantly, unless your paypal is set to use e-checks, then it has to clear first.

ahh...thats what it is.
Who has good prices on flattop knuckles? how hard is it to find them used?
gottagofast 03-01-2008, 11:53 PM It say it will also work with tj d30/d44.
No, it says "will also bolt to TJ Dana 30/Dana 44 knuckles for custom built steering applications. The axle brackets will have to be shaved to allow for clearance of the tie-rod" Ya gotta look at the details

There are no used flat top Knuckles for the unit bearing Dana 30/44 axles which all YJ&TJ have. Chev. Dana 44 have flat tops and will fit the 70s 44s and you should be able to find used. Go to www.littlekeylime.com, all you need to know about 44s.
dan95yj 03-02-2008, 12:13 PM Is it hard to find the ford flattops used? my hope is to stick with ford stuff so I dont have to change outers.

You wont find Ford flat tops, only Chev. Better go to the littlekeylime web site.
