We're thrown'n in a '01 Chebby Vortec 305 in a CJ7 soon. Keeping the 300 and we've already checked with the adaptor folks and they make an adaptor for just about every damn tranny. So... Which one?

To be different and fun, we're going Auto. But since I'm not an auto-guru by any stretch of the immagination, we need help. So far, we're convinced that the 700-R4 is the way to go. I know we want the post 90's one with the 30 spline output. Or should we go with the newest electronically controlled 4L60-E?

Help Please! We wanna do it right the first time.

Did that 305 come out of an '01 Van or something? 'Cause Chevy quit using them in trucks in '98

That's kinda what I thought. The damn thing prolly had a 460-E in it. Good to go. OK.

Thanks TEX too!

Any bright ideas on where to get a good used or rebuilt one?

someone smack me if im full of shit,
but im pretty sure 4l80es have a dual stator tq convertor, that makes slippage more like 3:1 instead of ~2:1 for a reg auto.
so the first gear will seem lower.
