k, idea, I'm thinking about taking advantage of the front opening hood and mounting my radiator in the hood with a taurus fan blowing up and some low profile louvers directing flow out and protecting the radiator.
I am tired of putting things through my radiator, and now that I bought a brand new aluminum unit that will require some moderate fabbing to fit in the stock location anyway, I am wondering why not put it in a less vulnerable place?
Would need to be done in a non jank way obviously, any opinions or experience with this?

i don't know man.
mine runs hot all the time even after i put an F-350 radiator with two 14" pushers in there. not as much but still. i don't see the room on top of the motor for a radiator and fan. unless i'm not picturing what you're saying...

6 inch body lift?
Mount it to the cage above your head?
Mount it in place of the tailgate with some hinges and a latch?
Stop running into shit?
Front mounted radiator with an expanded steel protector?

I think it wouldnt get enought air flow not to mention if anything came up and knocked a hole in the thing or fell on to it as well. Just check your path recall some things come engineered from the factor for a reason.

I thought I was the only one dumb enough to put a 460 in a Scout...:D
I dont see anything good coming from mounting the radiator above the motor. If you dont want it in the stock location I think the only option is to move it to the back. IMO

Something else I just thought of, I don't think it will cool as wel as you'd like since you will be blowing hot engine air through it.

i'm going to give it some consideration once I get the body on and see what kind of room I have to play with. Otherwise I am going to need to come up with an elaborate system of louvers at the front to run interference. I tried the expanded metal thing on my last rad and still poked a bunch of holes in it. Granted everything will be up much higher this time, but i can't solder aluminum.

I thought about this years ago because squashing the fenders in a roll usually fucked up the radiator since it was mounted to the front core support. Unfortunately, there just wasn't enough room above the engine. I did however mount a large trans cooler under the hood and mounted an electric fan inside the hood scoop and it worked very well. Eventually I mounted the radiator in the rear then currently behind the front seats since there is nothing left of the Scout back there. Good luck. I will be interested in what you come up with.

I ran my big trans/steering cooler in the hood of my old SII it was ok but the louvers blocked some vision. I say mount it in the back at an angle like the desert trucks do with their coolers. Or mud truck style.
