: AZ guys Hammers Night run?

zags

Well its becoming pretty clear that we won't be wheelin around here for awhile, and JV seems to be one of the only places garenteed to be open when we get there, so we are going to do a Friday-Saturday night run at the Hammers. Sleep in cold a/c during the day. Aug. 2 & 3. Meet on the lakebed 8:00 pm. both nights

Whaddya' think? Any Cali Guys want to meet up? Any recomendations for cheap lodging in the area?

C'mon you know you wanna go:D

There are a few of us here in Hemet that are planning to go for a night run Friday 19th. We will be meeting at the lakebed at 8PM. Looking to run Wrecking ball and what ever else seems like it needs doing. In the morning I will be leaving before noon, as the temps will be near 110 degrees.

Yucca Valley has several well priced hotels all on the main drag.

Full moon is on July 24, 5 days before the 19th. So it looks like we will have about 3/4 moon.

Most of the state and federal land has been indefinately closed to all recreation because of severe fire danger. That pretty much covers all of the best wheeling around here.

Aug. 2&3 is 3/4 moon.

Chris, you live fairly close, do you think you could make it back for that weekend?

the next full moon isn't untill Aug 22. I think I would have a bad case of blue swampers by then:eek:

I can easily flat tow a sammi or even a toy trail rig (on a trialer). I would just have to take all their spares and tools and put them in the bed of my truck.

I know hammers is hardcore and all but how well would a stock 96 4runner do if minor body damage was acceptable? Would it suck as I think it would or would it still be somewhat capable?

As entertaining as it would be to watch, The trails we will be running will be full on rock crawling at a pretty good pace. I would say a minimum would be Hard locked front and rear, 33's and crawler gears. Most of the trials at Johnson Valley carry the most difficult rating

http://www.kongs4x4.com/Images/Trail%20shots/ToyJambo.Hammers/zags4.jpg http://www.kongs4x4.com/Images/Trail%20shots/ToyJambo.Hammers/kong9.jpg

But, with the group that seems to be going, I can garentee it will be worth driving out to watch. Genearally its not too hard to make arrangements to ride along with someone.

Saturday night around the same time, same thing. Again, everyone is welcome, but if you've never been to JV, I seriously recomend
front and rear lockers, min. of 33s and crawler gears at the very least.

I am usually out at table mesa. I haven't been out in a few months because I have been upgrading to a D60 hybrid front and a dual case to go with my 4.7's. Since I have to drive my truck to school and work it makes for slow going. I don't think we have met either. I have met Mark a few times before and wheeled with Jack once when I came across him at TM. I probably won't be able to keep up with you guys and your trailers since I have to drive the rig.

JackA
07-25-2002, 10:01 AM
If you really want to go to the Hammers, I suggest you borrow a tow rig and trailer. Driving that far on 38's and wheeling at the Hammers is a bad idea. If you have major breakage, you'll be screwed. Hopefully you can figure something out and make it out. Maybe if you didn't blow $4000 on the Toy/60, you could have bought a trailer and tow rig. :D

I know, I know. I had a shiny new gold card and a moment of weakness. The drive wouldn't be so bad, I've driven that far on the 38's before. You are right about the breakage issue. If I blew up a t-case I'd be s.o.l. The last thing I want to do is be a burden on everyone. I don't know what I'll do. I don't know anyone with a trailer/truck and I have never driven a tow vehicle myself.

well I would have towed you (rented a trailer) but some son-of-a-bitch hit my truck last weekend and it is no longer drivable. If you decide to go and still have room let me know, I'm still up for going.

Well I might as well go, since I do need an excuse to avoid the Mother-in-law that weekend.

I probably won't be able to follow everyone on the trail for too long with only 33's and very little armor, but I can spectate. I'm really good at being a spectator. :flipoff2:

Besides, it only an hour drive.

If anyone in the Phoenix area can tow me I will pay their food and gas for the weekend. Anyone?
