what's up

I have a 99 Discovery 1
Truck isn't running it's best at the current moment.

I've done a spark plugs and wires
nothing happened
the MIL is on and the truck stutters ,rough Idle, When I drove the truck it staggers and then come back to normal acceleration. Usually after the truck has been driven for a while it run okay but everyday this shit happens.
I've ran seafoam thru and the same stuff. Cats are messed up too and I think my lifters are fawked cause I keep hearing a tick-tick-tick.

I was told by my local rover repair shop that it is either needs a valve Job or has a faulty intectors.

Truck has 113K miles.

codes are

p0300
p0307
p0305
p1313
p1315.

I need help and fast. I got about 2K to spend to fix once and for all but I need some insite on what it sounds like.

Those are all missfire faults and catalyst (o2 SENSOR) which I would guess means rich running condition due to the misfiring.

Could be the coil pack.

I would also check the Crank Position Sensor which, I find on a regular basis, tends to loosen. If loose, pull it out and make sure that the sensor is not damaged. If it is check the teeth on the transmission flex plate. If those are damaged you are in a world of hurt.

If you're hearing a "tick tick"....that's not normal. Might need a top end job or whatever you're mechanic suggests.

Fuel pressure and response to key turned off? Does it start easily? A real fuel injector cleaning process (BG or equal) might resolve it if it is indeed injectors.

Make damned sure that they measure the camshaft lift and closely inspect rocker arms/shafts when/if they tear it apart. It should not be ticking after only 113K miles. Was the oil changed as specified throughout its life?

Compression/leakdown might be enlightening as well. Real-time oxygen sensor info might be helpful as well to look at pre and post cat response to look for excessive unburned fuel being dumped to the exhaust.

Did we miss anything Matt?

It starts right up.

Junkydogg. I had the coil pack replaced about 7K miles.

I'll look at the crank postition sensor. and I'll try the BG engine cleaner if that doesn't work.

then it looks like she'll have a compression test.

Thanks

In spite of my being chastised for overly relying upon injectors as being a cause for nearly everything that goes wrong with a Rover engine, I doubt it is the case here given the easy start. Fuel pressure will be the determining factor as to condition of the rest of the fuel system. Fuel pressure is a seriously important parameter for us to know in diagnosis.

Perhaps as important as compression.

Remember your fuel injectors make a little tick tick tick noise under normal operation. I have the same problem more or less, rough idle and a sort of chugging on acceleration. It smoothes out as it gets to cruising speed.
My cats are bad, so check them out too.

same here I Drive a long Distance then she drives fine and it smoothes out it just around town that she acts up.
funny thing is when I have offroaded my Disco and I'm bumping her around she runs as if nothing is wrong might be a Bad ECU.

A compression tester is about $25, maybe less. One of the cheapest diagnostic tools around. Why *wonder* if you have compression issues? You can make a fuel pressure tester from $10 of parts from Home Despot, too.

X2. Probably more important. An engine with poor compression will still run.

very seldom see those codes from poor fuel pressure, or low compression. More likely a management issue due to conflicting info.

I'm seeing a shitload of crank and cam sensor issues that are not sensor related but either loosening or wiring related. Just a thought.....easy end cheap to examine. No equipment required.

All that sea foam and snake oil cleaner shit more than likely will not help at all. I find no practicle use for it whatsoever.
