My shoddy 39.5's aren't up to the horrors of Johnson Valley and I need a set of the Michelin XMl's. Anyone know of where to get something in the range of 44-48 inchers? Any leads are greatly appreciated.

Hey Daniel,
I read somewhere back that you can get wheels for cheap from a guy out here in Cali. Could you hook me up cause I need a set of wheels ( the 1 piece kind) and a set of the 46.5 or whatever Michelin XML. I hear the XML are softer compound than the XL's right? I gotta get rid of my 39.5's and 15 inch beadlocked wheels for some heavier duty meats! Help a poor boy out!
:D

you better have some serious axles or a combination of a stock motor and light rig. I have some friends from Mississippi I ride with who bought some of the 49's from Daniel. They run rockwell 2.5 ton -ujoint style axles front and rear with an alcohol (injected straight into the heads) fed 468 and broke two different axleshafts first trip out(of course they broke a shaft with 44 inch boggers to)..Their rig is kinda heavy,,but, word to the wise that is a lot of weight spinning on the end of the axle.I belive they told me daniel said one tire and rim weigh somewhere around 350 pounds. Is that right Daniel?

uhhhhh i dont think the problem is the tires, i think that the problem is that fact that they are running ALCHOHOL INJECTION BIG BLOCKS.

have one of them put one on a chassis dyno and you'll see what i mean :D

ECF, Eric, Is my friend and he posted under my log on name. So Im not the one looking for tires.

his rig is a 1980 toyota with a 20R. It has three t-cases so with the rockwell axles its 350 to 1. He whats some wheels and tires to put on the thing to get the big pigs out of the rocks and hopefully not punture them at JV.

If someone can help a poor collage boy in SoCal out with some wheels and tires it would be apreceated.

Duece and a half tires are only 40" tall. Not much different than your 39.5s and weigh about double.

Avalanche Engineering has tires up to 52" for sale on their website.

It's all about gearing 350Samurai! So I can't haul ass, it's a ROCK CRAWLER! Isn't it funny how people still think you need a big engine to turn big meats! hahaha Anyway I'm not worried about breaking a shaft cause I dont' run an Alchohol Injected Big Block! Sheesh. No one knows where I can get a set. Come on someone has to know of some guy who has some sitting around in his back yard! Hell I'd trade my 39.5's for them and some money if they were good enough!

It's a geographical thing - he's in TN, you're in CA. In TN, you DO need HP to go with those big meats ;)

daniel, Mathew and bob told me in the past it weighed a "svelt" 7200 pounds(the mechanical asshole that is)..I am wondering about the true tire height. When it was sitting at my grandmothers broken after the maiden voyage with the new big meats I measured the tires and they were 49 inches including the spare on the trailer.I was thinking those things were the 'true" height for some reason..Are they like most other tires with the true height being less? thanx..you need to ride in that thing...they let me drive it and I can tell you it is hella fun spinning donuts with the 4 wheel steer with the throttle on the floor with the big block...:D

It's not so much the hauling ass thing or the big meats, it's why do you feel you need 2 and 1/2 ton axles (heavy!) with a 4 banger, when Dana 44s (lighter) would work fine.

TheNerple

Because dana 44's weren't fine! I ran a 44 front and 12 bolt rear and the 44 wasn't holding up. So I could fork over a ton of money for a front dana 60 or get a front and rear rockwell for less and both front and rear would be upgraded! Plus I now have better clearance than my front 44 had. You don't have to have a big engine to break u joints, you just have to get bound up and have the torque to snap something and at 300+ to one I have the torque to break something. Where is Oz?

Never mind I see it is in Austalia. Anyone know what they put these tires 395/85/r20 Michelin XML's on? Thanks

ECF, try calling used tire dealers. i have seen a few big lots of misc tires including some of the big michelins being purchased off the military bases at auction by the used tire guys. this is how i got my 100r16's a few years ago. i would love to see a few pics of your rig with the 2.5 tons.

I've called all the used tire places around here and I have only come up with 2 1400R20 tires and he wants 175 for them and isn't sure on the tread but says for that price they should be good. Anyway I have a couple of contacts left to try on Monday but I'm coming up short on these tires. If you have any contacts down there let me know if you would cause my sources are drying up.

Alberta is no more on a 'coast' then Montana is on the 'coast'
they do seem to have a ton of tires though.

M- Position (Z=all position M= All position + Mud)
L- Application ( L= offroad)

Another place to look for tires are at the unimog places. You can find a list of dealers/importers here.....
