Just picked up a set of h1 beads for really cheap, but someone brought to my attention that they might not clear my high steer arms that I'm putting on my ford 60. Whats the deal, will they fit or do I gotta run some spacers?

Stock H1's have 7" backspacing ~ take a tire off and see if the wheel will fit, if not you will need to re-center them :smokin:

There are a few arms out there that may work...but most do not. You can recenter your wheels, or use adapters. Some duallies had large cast adapters that are very robust.

Didnt fit on my front 60. I just used 2" spacers untill I get around to recentering them.

May I ask where you got the wheels, as I need two? 12 bolt, and straight, only need apply. PM only, please. THANKS.

Also FYI, we actually call them twopiece rims. Not beadlockrims. You have to either use a internal beadlock, or runflat inside, but they have been used without any. The beads do not stay on if you have a blowout without the added internals. Those rims are picky to put together. (Just saved a month of Gymmembership doing just that).

I got my rims on Ebay.

i forget where i got the spacers, but you can pretty much get them anywhere. Just do a quick web search.

Thanks anyways. They are only 8 bolt "two piece rims", not the 12 you require. sorry.
So your saying I cant run a 38 tsl on them with out some run flats?

I cut down the run flats on mine and run 39.5" tires.

Do I need run flats tho is my question? I'd like to buy them eventually, but can i get around with out them for a lil bit?

Runflats or PVC inserts are needed to complete the beadlock system/design. The insert is were the "double" comes into play inside & out. I have the PCV type insert. I do not know if you can run an H1 without the inserts?

Would not run without beadlocks or runflats on a daily driver. May be a trailer queen. But the tire wont stay on the rim well. The 6x6 beadlocks are very light and easy to install. The H1 beadlocks, are probably a little better, but hard to find, and heavier, also heavier on the pocketbook. I wouldnt want to install the tires twice, its a lot of work. And setting the bead with a beadlock in there is too easy.

There should be no problem running them without the beadlock or runflat insert assemblies. I have run them thousands of miles as well as many of my friends (on my HMMWV, another H1 and a few one ton Jeeps). The bead profile is the same as all other 16.5 bead profiles found on Chevy/GMC/FORD trucks out there (non safety bead). Just keep the proper air in them and you will be OK-its not like your tire will be jumping off the bead with no ring behind it. You would only see a difference if you aired down for off-road driving.

10lbs ok?

actionpaintball

Put in what your tire reccommends (probably 32-45 PSI range). If you run 10 pounds offroad-you just run a greater risk of loosing the bead.

Sawsall and then a grinder to clean it up. Just be crazy careful since that shit is EXTREMELY flammable! I caught the garage on fire a week later grinding a bracket and a spark found a pocket of the magnesium that I missed on the clean up. Luckily I always have a fire extinguisher handy.

lol...I was about to say....magnesium and an angle grinder probably aint the most brilliant combination ive ever heard of.

but be sure to have someone with a camera handy =)

BTW, the 8bolt twopiece rim is rated up to 30 psi only (there is an article in the tech section on this page). Also may be instead of making fires in the garage, trying to save the magnesium inserts, check into PVC beadlocks (like 6x6). Truth is the magnesium stuff is not used anymore, due to firehazard.

well some decent news here. The guy gave me mag inserts for free. so thats 25 dollars a wheel, I bought 4 wheels, plus shipping, at a grand total of 243 dollars from texas to pennsylvania, with free internals i think thats a pretty dam decent deal.

He wanted 15 bucks a piece for the inserts btw.

Whats sexual preference have to do with buying wheels?

Now should I cut these inserst down like shown above and how the heck do these keep the tire on the wheel.

Guinness44

That depends on how far your firedepartment is from your place. Check into PVC beadlocks, and check the TECH for that article. There are some good pix. It will make sence to you. The stock 8bolt towpiece rim and mag runflat, were designed for 36 inch biasply tires. There is a runflat lube/fireretardant to use with runflat.

The ring that is left sandwhiches the tire bead to the inside of the wheel lip. the inner spines of the runflat rest and center themselves on the wheel.

Wow, what kind of fire extinguisher did u have? No way you can put magnesium fire out witha regular powder extinguisher...believe me I tried :D

Again, be ver very careful cutting magnesium with anything that cretaes friction or throws sparks. I had a nice white light show until the mag run out, and water, piss, dirt, extinguisher, etc, did not do much, hehe :)

Definitely run the H1's with the runflats, having this happening on deep snow and mud just sucks:

cutting ona bandsaw (i.e. harbore freight) is pretty straightforward. cut the first piece all the way, then come back for the excess with teh bandsaw, and clean CAREFULLY with a grinder :

Stranger Ranger, I tried pm'ing you. I do have a set of like new spacers for sale. I bought them and only ended up using them for mock up, before recentering the wheels. These are not the cheapy ones, these are the higher aircraft quality aluminum type, very well made.

If interested, let me know. I am in Northern California! Good luck with your project!

Actually I sell parts for these IE: centers and rock rings and we always refer to them as H1 double beadlock wheels and not once have I ever called them or heard them called two piece rims as they are actually 4 pieces. I have never had an issue putting them together, get an impact its really easy.

Why wouldn't the tire stay on the rim? And how are 6X6 rims any lighter than an H1 wheel? What does a 6x6 wheel sell for several hundred? I never pay more than $50 per wheel for an H1 wheel.

Oh wait I get it you must get a commision for every 6X6 wheel sold from your posts? From what I have read you are not very well informed that or your on their payroll.

Anyone ever drill another 8 bolts into the 8 bolt wheels? Is bolt strength the limitation on tire pressure? I cant see any reason why it would be bad if done properly.

Rock stomper off road sells off set steering arms to clear the hummer rims with out spacers or recentering. Oh and if you plan on cutting down your mag inserts D rated exinguiser handy. And DO NOT put water on it. Mag is a class D fire and burns hot enough to split water into oxygen and hydrogen, witch will actually fuel the fire.
