Did a search, can't quite come up with the info I need.

What I need is to swap chevy king pin knuckles out onto the ford hp60 I'm putting in my jeep. Problem is the parts nazis around here are useless, they need to know an 'application' ie: year, make, model. Today when I said 'king pin chevy', I was told that there was no such thing, they only came with ball joints.

So all I really need to know is what year, make, model of chev am I looking for as a donar, so I can save myself a whole bunch of time wandering around salvage yards trying to keep the parts nazi's dog, or even the parts nazi, from either humping my leg, or biting my head off.

Thanks.

Chad

You are looking for a 79-87 Chevy 1 ton 4x4, in 87 they swapped to the ball joints.. the outer C's on the ford and GM D60's are the same all you need is the knuckles out!

actaully you are looking for a 1977-1991 chevy dana 60 front.Chevy never used ball joints in there 60 fronts..Ford and dodge did in later models....Chevy put a king pin 60 in crew cab one tons from 1988-1991 while their regular one ton 4x4's had the ifs set-up in front after 1987.Hope this helps.:D

well, slightly different information, but hopefully this should help. Basically, if I find a 79 - 87 chev one ton, that should have a king pin 60 in it. Thanks guys.

yes....but, actually, from 1977-1991.either way it shouldn't be hard to find one.price on the other hand will be the issue.By the way your parts nazi's are probably referring to ball joint 3/4 or 1/2 ton front ends instead of a one tone..I have come across more than one person who thought a 3/4 ton front was a 60 front because it was "8-lug"....Good luck.

I have seen mostly complete outer pats from a GM 60 go for $400 *without* lockouts or stub shafts here locally... And check the prices these parts are bringing on eBay too  I don't envy your search if you intend to do it on a limited budget :(

oneton:

You are exactly right, after the parts nazi told me there was no such thing, I searched his yard, and what gms were there were all 1/2 or 3/4 tons.

DRM:

I suspect I will pay roughly 300$ca (about 150us) for the whole axle - that is pretty much the going rate around here for such a thing. They will of course try to rip me off for more, but eventually that is what I will have to pay. The part that sucks is that all I need is the outer knuckle, spindle, stub, and hub - the brakes are sure to be toast anyway. Wish I could get just those parts for something decent, price wise.
