Is the Millermatic 140 MIG too underpowered for chassis work like brackets, armor etc? Didn't want to go to a 220 welder because it would be too much of a PITA to run the wires from my panel.

I do EVERYTHING with my lincoln 135, running .035 flux wire. It welds up to 1/4" fine and I have had 0 failures. I wouldn't run solid wire and gas though...that'd be iffy, IMO

When I weld something heavier than 1/4" I use my torch to preheat stuff, then weld it when its still hot.

I opted for the easier/cheap solution. Went with the 175 and made a 200v extension cord to run out of the window from the dryer outlet. Came in handy for getting around the garage once it was built and had 220 run to it.

x2, but i have used .23 wire with mixed gas on 1/4" with no probs, would love to have a bigger machine but the wifey tells me:shaking:.
