: Body Swap? 65 scout 80 to scout 2 frame
scottieb 03-05-2008, 05:16 PM I have a 76 scout 2, with a rough body, and a 65 scout 80 with a good body, how hard is it to meld them together? Anyone have experiance, and how straight forward is it. I see them for sale sometimes with the swap, and i was wondering how difficult it actually was. Thanks, any help is appreciated.
gustav129 03-05-2008, 08:11 PM It's been done many times on www.binderbulletin.org.
MochaMike 03-05-2008, 09:31 PM Why?
Just swap the drivetrain & engine.
gustav129 03-06-2008, 01:47 PM From what I've read on it, it would flex better and the frame is stronger.

I am not buying it.

You read wrong.
binderbound 03-07-2008, 01:04 AM More internet BS. Search the binder bulletin. Its been covered. Not worth the effort IMO.

Having owned and abused both...there is nothing that will be gained by switching frames. You would be best served to transfer the goods into the 65'
In my opinion the model 80 frame is a better frame than the Scout II frame. I have owned them, and abused them both.
Ben W 03-07-2008, 10:30 AM Don't bother, 80 to a 2 frame is hotdog on a gravy.

Ben W 03-07-2008, 02:52 PM I typed exactly what I meant. :shaking:

Well i will stick my head in the door for you to bash. I see many benifits. Having built many scouts both ways (scout 2 axles, power steering, etc on a scout 80/800 frame AND doing the body swap route).
From what i can see it is easier to swap the 80/800 tub on the Scout 2 frame and running gear (provided you swap to like motors, ie 4cyc to 4 cyc or v-8 to v-8) if you want tighter turning radius, power steering, increased gas hauling capacity.
The scout 2 frame has these advantages:
1. Narrower for better turning radius before contacting the frame (especially
with these new 60 degree turing axles being built)
2. Spring mounts do not need to be moved to fit the axles
3. Power steering mounts already on the frame and ready to go.
4. Scout 2 19 gallon tank in the back gives you a capacity of 39 gallons for
extended wheeling with no extra cans.
5. Frame flexes (not much but some) better due to narrower width.
6. When you do the body swap you can build a bit of a body lift into the new
mounts.
If you convert a 80/800 frame you have more fab and welding to do to get these benifits. You either have to move the spring perches on the frame or the axle, you need to fab up power steering box mounting area. Yes you have to make body cab mounts for the body swap but it is less overall welding work.
For thoes doing alot more custom fab work it may be a moot point, especially if running wider than Scout 2 axles.
The Fleckster 03-12-2008, 02:27 PM I incorporated a body lift into this per the customers request. He wanted to be able to run 35" tires on stock suspension, but later on go to 37" with more suspension (possibley coils:smokin:)
The Fleckster 03-12-2008, 02:31 PM Here is a almost done shot showing all the mounts. This is at my old shop
