’95 D1 300TDI, auto trans
I had my trans rebuilt a few months back by a recommended shop. The other day I discovered that the engine would start with the trans in drive. At first I suspected the inhibitor switch, but substituted it for a known good one and found no difference.
I would rather fix the problem myself, as the trans shop is far away and inconvenient to get the truck to. I suspect that the “thingy” that operates the inhibitor switch was replaced mis-aligned somehow. If I drop the pan are the necessary parts accessible, or are they behind/above the valve body?
PS. The selector cable is properly adjusted, all other transmission functions perform as they should.
Thanks for your time,
Andy

Isn't that controlled by the microswitch in the shifter? I removed all the crap from mine, and while I haven't tried to start the truck while in drive, I can remove the key with the shifter in any position.

Its in the transmission. You'll have to drop the valve body to do it. Quite a mistake. Better have them correct it or they will hold you responsible for any future problems.

Pendy:
Thanks for the info. Guess I'll leave it to the professionals then.
Cheers,
