I have a '90 XJ 4.0l auto tranny 4x4 and was planning to buy '87 XJ. That '87 Xj has the similar engine/tranny of what I have on '90 XJ. I want to take some parts from '87 XJ for my '90 XJ however I would like to make sure they will fit in '90. Anything that I should know before I pay some bucks on '87 XJ?

They should work fine.
I however possibly need two small dash parts from one of them :D

Which parts were you thinking of interchanging?

ha ha, Sure I can pass you some parts what I dont need. :D
I just need front bumper, suspension kits for both rear and front, motor, both front and rear axles and transfer case. Probably tires/wheels.

All that should work.
The motor and computer might be your only issue depending on which way you are swapping.
Damn CA. SMOG laws.
What are your plans for the motor switcharoo?
Put the 90 into the 87?

Yeah hate that CA smog test. Matter of fact, I just failed smog test last week! :mad3: Dont know yet about motor because my '90 is still running great. I just would like to keep motor as a spare. I know someday it will dead on me. It is about 135,000 miles. I dont think I am going to use '87 body instead of '90.
I guess I will go ahead and buy '87 if I get a good deal.

Smog test:
Whats your idle RPM at? What are you failing?
I raised my idle to 1100RPMs the max allowable, added some dura lube to the engine and some additive for the gass drove it for afew weeks, took out my air filter in the parking lot and passed with flying colors. :rainbow:
In my state the second try is free after that I think its $20 for every two tries.
I raised my idle with some tape, alot easier then actually adjusting it!
have fun.
