ok i know this isnt understand hardcore but this is an honest question and its in the newbie section with no response. so now im askin you guys..

im starting the planning on my 98 tj for 1 tons. i have a 60 and 14 bolt. i am currently running a 6in full traction long arm on my rig right now. ive done alot of searching and look at ALL of the tjs done on here and have asked questions and gotten great ideas for everyone. I want to build it for all trials and the occasional drive on back roads.

Well im planning on running 39-42 in tires most likely iroks and i know that 95 in wheel base wont cut it. so my friend who has built 2 Geos with comp maxxis has me convinced on 105-106 in wheelbase. so if i shoot for that how far should i move the front and rear.. i was thinking 3-4.5 front and 6-7 rear to keep it balanced. i plan to run hydro assist for steering and i understand that im most likely going to have to move the steering box.

I am also undecided on weather to just run coils for now and upgrade later but i know coil overs or air shocks would make the world difference.

next, i know i should just buy a ploy-performance 3 and 4 link but with money being tight, do you guys think it would be fine to make new arms and use most of my FT kit. Or i can try and make the mounts myself.

If anyone has tried this or something and have had bad luck let me know because i dont want to have to start from scratch and build this over again the next season.
whats your thoughts.

Thanks
Ben

Ben, if you would have purchased a red star, or spent just a fraction of a second reading...You would have found my build. I started with a 6" FT lift, knew 95" WB sucked, etc etc.

Read about my steering box, read about the frame changes, Dude...I've done the whole build for you already :flipoff2::flipoff2:

Ok done.. i have boughten a red star.:D and ive look at yours but must have completely forgotten it.. very nice build. now how has is worked cause i know with my jeep 95 in wheel base the anti squat is all goofy, now with you lengthin it has it been much better.

Damn Lance was on it, one day service.

FYI there is more infor here than a 1000 books so just search the word "stretch"

Rear stretch is easy, front requires steering box move or behind the axle steering.

Use that red star.

i understand that thers tons to moving the front forward and that you can use the astro box and what not. im just wondering whats a good amount to move it. cause i dont want it to look goofy and not perform well(aprroach and departure angles). i want it to be balanced. and what do you guys think of using coil springs for now..

Benny, thanks for buying a star and supporting the site!!!

There is a "Ultimate TJ Build ups thread" ... I have read everyone of those builds and have taken ideas from all of them I would say.

Coils VS Coilovers, all depends on your wallet. If you can afford it, do it right the first time. I think so anyways,

Re: Front stretch, the Astro box kind of forces you to go 5-6", if you didnt go that far your steering geometry might not be ideal. Now back to that wallet, if you can afford to go full-hydro, you can choose any sort of length of stretch you would like.

PM if I can help,

-Joe

P.S. My bias opinion, keep your belly pan and upper front control arm mounts, sell the rest....Belly pan made starting the project that much easier, atleast for me. From there it's all connecting the dots, albeit very large dots, like axle to frame :)
