Hello Dezert Race Fans/Teams/Junkies,
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR April 26th RACE, PLASTER CITY/ELCENTRO SUPERSTITION SERIES OF MDR.
VOLUNTEERS MUST BE AT THE START LINE BY 6AM.
Anyone who is interested let me know what position sounds good to you and as long as all critical positions are filled and everyone shows up on race day you will get that position, otherwise we might need to move people around. Thanks!
COURSE SET-UP AND SET-UP OF START/FINISH: If you want to help with course marking, call/coordinate with Patricia at MDR soon 626-442-9320 or contact her on the MDR website. If you have any questions contact Patricia, usually course is marked the Saturday before the race.
STAGING/START/FINISH (flagman/woman) 2-3 people race day, get up close and personal with metal! Wear headset and receive commands of which flag to wave at each vehicle. Help line up the vehicles for the start of the race.
SPOTTERS 1-2 people on race day, Calling in vehicle numbers that whiz by to the start/finish line so that the correct flag can be waved when they get there.
CONTINGENCY: 1 person evening before race day , Take note of stickers/equip on vehicles so the teams gets their contingency rewards(if they do well!) Get to check out vehicles up close!!!
ROAD CROSSING: Race day 2-3 people at each crossing (usually there are two to four crossings). Fun position! Good spectating!
CHECK POINT: 16 people (4 for each checkpoint) for each checkpoint on race day. Usually there are about 4 checkpoints. Stop the vehicles as they come by, write down there number and time, and wave them on their way!
RELAY/COMMUNICATIONS: Monitor main race frequency on a radio, if you have your own set up and equipment and would like to help out with main race frequency and relay, let us know. HAMs would love this position...you should be familiar with the race course and area.
REGISTRATION: Evening before race day 1 person 4pm-9pm. Put sexy wrist bands on your favorite racers!!!!!
ROVER: Good for those who like to keep mov'n, look for cheaters and shoot them just kid'n, you just keep an eye out for problems, drive beside course, general assistance. 4WD vehicle recommended.
COURSE SWEEP: Race day after the race. Rovers do this job! Making sure all vehicles safely off of the course.
TEAR DOWN/DESERT CLEAN UP: General clean up. There are TONS of things to clean up after the race! Picking up course markers day after the race.
REMEMBER: RACERS - Your pit crews can set up at a checkpoint and run the checkpoint at the same time!
It is a fun weekend event. Make a day of it, or a whole weekend. Camping is available everywhere in the area. Volunteers get to see the best action.
My wife and I are starting a Volunteer Network called "Volunteers 4 Dezert Racing" (V4DR). This is an independent group of dezert race fans...NOT associated with any particular promoter.
The goal of the group is to create a solid network of Volunteers for our local race promoters...grass roots stuff like MDR and others. We are just fans with the hope of racing someday. I have seen/read about the shortcomings of volunteer support, and hope a network like this will be the answer. by dezert-ratz...for dezert-ratz. I just want to do my part...so when I race someday and see those volunteers choking on my dust, I can say I have been there...and we want to meet others who have the same dezert addiction as us!! I also hope to create a point system which will reward V4DR volunteers for their service...the more races you volunteer for, the more rewards...but I will need the industry's support. OFF ROAD VENDORS...PLEASE STEP-UP and support those who support you! Send me a message if you would like to contribute to the cause...again I am looking for pledges...not anything up front..and there will be an organized system.
As of now, I am need volunteers for the MDR "Superstition Series" races near El Centro/Plaster City California. MDR is in great need of volunteers. MDR puts on 12 races per year...more than most...if not all other promoters. Its a big job and requires big help. Lets keep these races thriving!
Patricia and Jim of MDR wanted me to remind the race teams that if you would like to run a checkpoint...up may set up a pit at that location!!! that could be an edge up on the competition.
Also, Vendors that wish to volunteer may set up free advertising at the races. NO PRODUCT SALES...BLM does not allow it.
