A friend has been racing this same jeep XJ for the last 13 years here in EGYPT. He races several FIA cross country rallies and has made good results.

His XJ has a stroker engine but its still not enough for the weight.
I know almost nothing about engine management. Is engine management allowed in Jeepspeed ?
What are the engine management solutions for this 6 cyl engine ?

Contact painless wiring.

They have a system we are using in our 1706 Jeepspeed and it makes the 4.0 sing.

I ve looked at painless & they seem to use GM components in their harness including the ECM. But does anybody know if its programmable & how far can I go with painless ?

It's completely programmable with a lap top. It's got so much stuff to tune, you won't know what half of the stuff even does....rev limiter, injector pulse widths, timing, how much the timing retards when it get signal from the knock sensor, etc.

looks like it only works with 97-98 4.0s??

Contacted painless via email & this is what I got back:

Hello; I don’t think our harness will help you it is not designed for the 4.7L stroker, it is designed for the 91-97 4.0L stock motor.

Dan you race jeepspeed do you have the Painless harness ? Does it come with a PC software ?

Contact Jeff Abbott at painless performance.

Our car is a 99.

Jeff Abbott has been tuning this system in his mad scientest lab and has created a monster. As far as I know we have something very new, and it screams. Dan would know more about it then me as would Scott Hartman. They got the instruction on tuning it, and they are the guys ringing the car out whith Dan holding on to the lap top with one hand and his butt with the other.

Dan is right and I think the information from painless is not right. It did not come from my source there, the engineer who designed the system! It is compatible with a stroker, it has nothing to do with the displacement of the motor.

The reason it is designed for the 91 through 97 is the distributer and intake sensors. You may have to use a newer dizzy and throttle body. Ours is a 99 and it worked fine. We used older injectors and the newer manifold. Everything else is a GM component. You could put it on any 4.0 with the right parts. It eliminates all motor wiring and the computer. It is truly stand a lone and completely tunable.

What numbers are we talking about here ?

Are you asking about $$ or dyno numbers?

I mean dyno numbers.
Because the FIA makes demands putting an AIR RESITRICTOR plate 39mm = 1.5". So we need the maximum power to compete against high budget race teams like BMWs X-RAID, Nissan, etc....

If the stock 4.0L makes 190 BHP & 300 nm tq how much gain using painless ?
