Well I'm typically a Ford guy, but I just got a pretty good deal on an 1971 IH 1100 4x4. No rust, body is decently straight, runs, drives, all that fun stuff.
Anyway, I go to pick it up on Thursday. In the mean time there are two things I know are wrong with it:
It needs brakes and it needs a clutch.
I'm not having any issues finding brake parts, but the clutch is proving elusive unless I want to spend $400 on a clutch kit.
Right now 4 of the 5 parts houses in my town are "waiting on prices from the warehouse", the 5th place told me $400 for a Zoom clutch.
So what I'm wondering is what is the input spline count and diameter, or is there just another clutch that will work in here besides the "right" one?
It's a 345/T-19/divorced NP205

Another find:
You can use the Ford clutch disc. Just get the '87 F250 Diesel 11" clutch disc (assuming the PP is 11"). It has the same spline count and shaft size as the IH T-19. That's the disc I am running in my stock 304 T19 SSII with the Long style PP (that Ford uses). The disc is a little thicker and grabs very well too.

You must have the larger 12" clutch with the prices you are being quoted. Just have it relined. It will be alot cheaper and you end up with the same product you would get at a parts house.

Thanks for that. I've never messed with diesels, so i didn't realize some of the diesels used 1 1/8" inputs.
Second question:
I'm being asked if I have a 1 1/8 or a 1 1/4 input shaft. From the statement above I figure the 1 1/8 is the common one.
Is there a 1 1/4? I tried looking it up and can find no reference to it except for it the parts catalogs.
Will i not know until i get it and get it apart?
Thanks for the help.
EDIT: And one more question:
Is the 1100 pickup to the Scout II like the F-150 to the Bronco, where they're the same basic underpinnings- just a different body?

No, not even close. The 1100 is the "half ton" model of IH truck and has it's own unique powertrain. The 1100 while rated at a half ton could be rated over what other 3/4 ton trucks were at the time, it just all depends on the spring and frame package the owner wanted with the truck.

Try these guys http://www.fortwayneclutch.com/product_2_1_2.html They rebuild a lot of old out of production clutches as well as sell new ones.

Well, I guess I'm just going to wait until I pick the truck up and peel it apart to figure out exactly what is going on.
All the prices for new clutches I'm getting are in the $250+ range, which is definitely more acceptable but I still have places saying they need to know which input shaft I have.
There's a medium duty clutch builder about 30 minutes from me, so I'll take everyone's advice and call them up. It may take longer, but at least then I know I'm getting the right parts.
I started asking questions over at Binder Bulletin, figure they're a little more inline with what I intend on doing with this truck.
The other thing I'm looking into now is what it'd take to get disc brakes on the nose of this thing. it has a closed knuckle 44 so the "easy" swap doesn't work. Apparently someone on the BB has done it, but for the life of me i can't find the writeup :confused
Oh well, this truck'll just be another learning experience :)

Now that you mention it, I remember reading that thread.
