Drove this around the block..

Remembered back to HS Chemistry class how to work a graduated cylinder..

http://www.tmcom.com/~tsm1/gallery2/d/41930-4/DCP_0338.JPG

Since I had a tire fail me in October and the tire carcass beat the crap out of one of my reservoirs until it loosened the hose and puked oil.

Got the one shock rebuilt, recharged the rest, stuffed the engine inside..

Bolted everything together, filled, adjusted, blah blah. Sunday I fired the freshened up 304 and dug some holes in the road.

Also tossed the 63amp alternator that NAPA said was fine and bought a 94amp 12SI for the rig. Now I can run the Taurus fan, helmet pumper, and dust light without draining the battery.

Added some additional stiffeners to the front clip, since the fenders are falling apart from using them as structural members.

I need to rebuild the front driveshaft and re-install, and fix the broken ladder bar mount.

Should be able to go racing this weekend.. 3/15, in Cascade..

Hey Tom- the racer scout for the 09 season?

Sat- had to make an emergency trip to the coast to pick up a customer rig. Just for fun, I rolled across the scales. Grand total with my 06' dodge 2500, 16 foot big tex car hauler, 89 chev 2500 4x4, and all the road food..... 15000 exactly. Still nailed down 17.6 mpg round trip:smokin: Went to diesel smokes birthday get together. Cool place. Ate some nachos that were WAY to spicy for my delicate tongue. Drank a lot. That was fun, dont get to do that much anymore. We need to start a 'get diesel smoke laid' fund. He's quickly on his way to 40 Year Old Virgin status:flipoff2::laughing:

Sun- started parting out above chevy to install drivetrain into 99 wrangler. Finally caught up on all the Lost episodes. Ate some pizza.

Mon- I gotta build scout brokers tie rod/drag link set up along with the continued parting out of chevy.

Hey Tom- the racer scout for the 09 season?

Looking like that, isn't it? :D Original plan almost a year ago was to have it ready for the race this weekend, but it's still in Colorado Springs.

Good thing I didn't start parting out the old one... or flog the 304 until it *BROKE*.. only ran $1000-ish to freshen it up this time.

I'm usually around 12,500lbs when I'm loaded light, 15-16k at times, but 7mpg is average for my old gasser Travelette.

Friday: Got the T-19W in the Scout and all back together. Welded up the exhaust and ran it around the field like a madman.

Sat: Still sick but lots of garage/yard cleanup. Never got the 4"Triangles under it due to too much work around the house.

Sunday: Still sick but more yard cleanup, and burn pile clean up. Used the Scout to haul the chicken coop remains to the burn piles and move rock.

It felt really good to be back in the game. This weekend its 4" springs SOA and the full width built axles from my other project.

After that just order my PartsMike steering stuff, assemble the D60 rear, plumb the hydro assist, new brakelines...and start testing the pig. Cage and shocks post testing. I will probobly go with a D&C for lack of time over a custom job, I'll save that for the 800  project I put on hold.

Put a T19 wide back together after taking it apart to check the gear orientation when building my last T19 w/AA adapter. Ordered a bunch of stuff from NAPA to complete some minor Scout projects. Should get my STaK OD this week.:D

Used some POR-15 marine clean on my boat that's been in the water for years. Since its on the trailer, because lately its been trying to do its rendition of the Titanic in the boat house, I thought I'd give it a try. That stuff is amazing. Spray it on and let it soak. Then with a little wiping, years of lake scum comes right off.:smokin:

Saturday: Birthday party in the morning with the family and birthday party in the evening with friends. Had way too much fun Saturday night, drank free drinks, ate other peoples food and kicked ass at pool while I was sober. Then went out to breakfast and back home around 4 am. Stayed up with a friend until 5:30am playing cards and decided it was time for bed. Got back up at 10 am to tell two friends I wasn't going shooting with them as I still had to recover and make it to work by 4:30 Sunday afternoon.

All in all, one of the best birthday weekends, I've ever had. Just glad I could share it with some close friends

I remember their ads on the back of 4x4 mags 15 years ago. this things never been run, completely rebuilt. did some sight seeing south of penrose with the kids. ate at "BIG" burger world outside on canyon city... :smokin:

sun- played around with some dana 20 twinsticks I had lying around. seeing what it will take to make them work on the 300. bought a jd2 with 1 3/4 die on the cheap too. need to upgrade my welder soon.

I spent Thursday afternoon in Yakima with my boys to be with my 10yo who had a tooth yanked...(baby tooth getting in way of fast adult tooth...)

Friday picked them up from school and headed back to Seattle area...

Saturday played with them, girlfriend, etc....

Sunday repeat...

Things I really did:

1. Bookmarked my fuel cell and some other items for my Scout...
2. Packing and moving sucks...(I already knew this...just confirming)
3. Started my Scout...
4. Dreamed of setting up the garage that I will have at the end of the month...

Put a front axle under my SSII so i can move it, got my Terra and 1970 1200 running again, considering putting plates and insurence back on the Terra and parking the 1980 Diesel Scout and 2 Dodge Diesels with the price difference in Fuel. With the 46 cent difference in unleaded and diesel and difference in MPG it will probley cost about the same so i might as well drive something i like to drive, the Terra hasen't been plated since 2002.

21/44-15LT TrXus STS, not bad for snow floatation. We ran em around 2.5 psi. Only thing is I think they need more meat:flipoff2: They didn't seem to empty the snow that well.

I got a chance to drive an IH on Saturday, too bad it was a Uhaul. Helped some friends move and he drove the thing 300ish miles but was scared to back it into the driveway.

Sunday I made a Harbor Freight run, but I didn't even browse around, went right in and picked up a couple $6 airbrushes and a compressor. First time I've ever been in there without picking up something I didn't go in there for.

Today I did some sandblasting and painting while my daughter was napping...

No Scout progress unless you count moving a hood and a fender to get to the blast cabinet.

Mad dash to work out some FI issues, but got it dialed in and drove the 180 miles to Hollister Hills for the annual TDO camp out and wheeling fest. It's also the Scouts West weekend there too. Lots of carnage in the tank traps.
Did a few black diamond trails and hill climbs. The most fun was the jungle, not even listed on the map. No breakage other then the stock battery clamp let loose and had some arcing and sparking.
Great times for sure:smokin:

I'm with ya- gotta loose the old man grandpa look. I'm thinking a set of black steel "rockcrawler" wheels with some 265/75 AT's. Or maybe some aluminum wheels would look good- having a hard time making a decision. Any recommendations?

Gotta get it running right first though. #7 cyl has a broken valve spring so it runs a little rough right now  Hoping i can just stick a new spring in there and all will be good.

I put in a new throttle cable in Sat. Drove around the grounds a little, heading back from picking up beers at the Circle K the cable pulled through the plastic grommet on the accelerator pedal. It happend right as we turned into the driveway, and I was able to idle up the hill to park. Had to work 14 hrs. Sunday. Took Monday off, fixed the cable, adjusted cluth linkage and and drove around a bit more.

Today I used the scout to pull a bush out at work.

Your Idea? :flipoff2: I did it 11 years ago!

Yea, the Boggers that I was running was purchased from Snoopy a LONG time ago. I ran some Irocks and they were torn up in two trips when I lived in AZ. My Wife was really Mad! i think these Pit Bull Rockers will be the tire for me. Nice thick sidewalls like the Boggers, and a HUGE increase in traction. There is some spots on Moab that are due for payback. I hope these tires will be the medicine. :smokin:

This is next to a old inflated 39.5 Bogger on the left. The right is a new, unmounted 39.5 Bogger. The tread on the Rocker is around 12" actual.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n272/SSII/PitBull%20Tires/DSCN0490.jpg

On a 12" wide rim. If I was only doing rockcrawling, I would run a 10" or 8" wide wheel. Since I do like speed and highway driving and this is an all around rig, I went with the wider wheel. I can say that the on road driving so far has been like on radials. Very smooth even at 30 psi. Very stable too. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.
