Depending on which route we take out of Chico, it takes about 45-60 minutes to get to the trail. Sac to Chico is about 90 miles, so I would figure about 3-3.5 hrs from Placerville. It usually takes me about 2hrs from when we air up to get home(I live about 15 minutes from Auburn).

As slushy/icy it was, there wasn't a lot of action shots to be taken, just a lot of holes to be found. At our campsite there was about a 10'-12' base
Here is one at the turn-off.

Our toasty campfire. It was hot enough that all that was needed was shorts and a sweat shirt to be comfy.http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/aa904512ad.jpg

All in all it was a pretty good outing, it was slushy in the afternoon, but not too much trouble, and at night everything was frozen solid making it easy to go fast enough to break things

That there is. If I still didn't have buddies still in Chico, I wouldn't get over there much either. It took 4.5 hours to get home, a long time to go to the snow when I am only 50 minutes from Eagle Lakes turn off, even closer to Bowman and Fuller lake.

Unfortunately for us, most of the TNF is closed to wheeled vehicles. I keep inquiring when are they going to open up the Grouse ridge area to wheelers. Meadow lake and Bowman would make for great winter wheeling destinations.
