Im heading out with a bunch of friends in rigs and maybe a few dirtbikes for my first time to JV. My question is will it be worth bringing? Can I ride close to the trails? Who has done it? Any Suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. The main thing is that there wont be a lot of dirtbikes so I would like to be near the rigs.

Unless you're a world-class trials bike rider, you won't be near anybody wheeling on the trails.

JV has stuff for everybody. Bet you could not
see the entire open area in just one weekend.

4x4s, Bikes, Quads, Buggies, you name it.

Its the biggest designated OHV area in the west.

Thanks for a little info. No im not a trials rider, just hoping a few more friend bring bikes so we can explore a little.

Bikes are great out there, but you better be in shape, the whoops out there are brutal!

Tac Hammer is about the only rockcrawling trail that has a somewhat of a road running through it. And it's one of the closest trails east of the lake-bed.

Also there's plenty of good riding out there :smokin:

I was joking about being a trials rider; when I read your post I just pictured somebody on a dirt bike trying to ride wrecking ball to stay with a group of rigs. Gnar. :eek: There's TONS of riding area out there as everybody's said. Just watch those bomb craters if you're doing 40-50mph+!!

Tons riding out there but plan on leaving your bike at camp and jumping in a rig when it's rockcrawling time. Or you can ride to the trail head and hike along the rigs drinking beers..... when you run out haul ass back to camp and reload.

I will be going on Saturday, March 15. Should be setting up close to Soggy Dry Lake. We are a few dirtbike riders looking to explore and we are planning on riding to the trailheads of the Hammers area.......

Last April at the Jambo my friend and I ran Sledge backwards on our bikes.

This was after giving up trying to get up to the top of Jack the back way. It didn't seem like it would be that bad to get up there from what I remembered driving it in a rig, but I was wrong! :laughing: We only went down Sledge because we didn't want to try to go back up upper Sledge to get back out. It still took two of us per bike to get them through some spots, even going "down."
I can't say I'd recommend it, but it made for a good story anyway. :D
Yes, everywhere but the rock trails are fun on the bikes though. We bring them every year!

Our other friend Andy who is a top trials rider is coming down with us this year with his buggy. I hope he brings a trials bike too because I want to see that!

JV is as good on a bike as it is in a wheelin' rig. I grew up riding there and all around there. Whoops are mild to huge, single trac everywhere, hill climbs everywhere, some that a stroked KX500 will have a hard time if there is no moisture in the soil. You can get to the mailbox on sledge without much rock riding/bike carrying at all. You will not be disappointed on a bike there! If you go to far east, the marines will chase you out, but that's a good time as well.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Just got home from 3 days in Johnson Valley. I brought my bike and had a blast. The wheelin was great and so was the riding. I rode a little way up the backside of jack and then walked all the way to the top. WHAT A HIKE. Overall it was a great experience.
