does that have more or less back pressure than a stock unit

Flowmasters are meant for large-displacement motors. My buddy who works for flowmaster put whichever-series muffler is designed for the smallest-displacement motors on his Sammy, and it still sounds like shit. It most resembles the exhaust note of a 2-cycle marine outboard.

On my Samurai, I have a Dynomax Race Magnum muffler. Very compact, reasonably quiet, and a VERY nice exhaust note. Deep and throaty at low rpm's, with quite a bite to it at high rpm's. Plus it's a straight-through design so it maximizes flow and power. I've had it for about 3 years and it hasn't rusted out or anything yet.

I run the $14.00 Cherry bomb turbo, I think I asked for the cheapest muffler they had at AutoZone with a 2" inlet and a off set outlet.:)

I just bypass the muffler entirely, straight out of the block:rasta:
But once i fix the never ending cracked exhaust pipe I'm thinking about using the muffler from a Suzuki bike. Nice and compact and easy to tuck up out of the way and keeps it away from the transfer case and mounts.

Not mine, not sure sure what part # I have but I't kick's ass. Mine dose not sound like anyother samy I've wheeled with and I like that. On that note I have a Doug Thorly header, with 2" pipe all the way back threw a high flow cat and then my flowmaster.

I've got a Flowmaster on everything I own (including my diesel powered tow rig). I have a Sammy with a stock motor, one with the motor built, that has a cam in it, one with a 350 V-8, and one with a 2.0 Chevy Tracker motor in it.
They all sound awesome. I have even had compliments about the one with the cam in it because it had that deep sound with a little lope to it.
P.S. The 350 don't sound too bad either.

Oh yea that brings up a good point. My 1300 is not stock, so it may sound different. Iksy cam, ported and polished head (with some tweaks from a friend of mine) bored .020 over, flat top forged pistons.

BINGO ! Why waste your money anywhere else? Price of 1 Flowmaster = 1 set of bearings !!!!! :flipoff2:

This is mikes tube buggy and as you can see to the left he has a super trap type on his. It tucks in nice and you cad adjust the back psi by adding or removing the gold plates. PS it sounds nice to boot!

I am with Geoff, I run the dynomax muffler he has and it kicks ass. I have it in my 2.5L TJ sounds real good. I had it in my YJ 4.0 souded good there as well. Also the local shop recommended that muffler over the flowmaster. They said they were replacing alot flowmasters that the bottom was rusting out on.

When I got my samurai it had no exaust and I was broke so I had them throw on a cherry bomb w/2" exaust pipe from the manifold back, off-road only so no cat! BTW, my cherry bomb is way to lound and I will be putting the same dynomax in mine.

personally i was never a big fan of the supertrapp. with mine, if it was set for "quiet" it really felt like there was a potato stuffed up the pipe-shitty power. but if it had enough discs for good power, it was so loud it deafened you....
was not able to ever get it to a happy medium for some reason.:(

the gas exits 360* which makes for heat related probs unless shielded (they sell a little 180* shield which deflects a little)

btw this is "circumferential degrees", not "heat" degrees......hahaha

the nuts on the inside core are tacked on, and very prone to stripping/breaking at the welds.:(

i even tried an "E.A.R." core which was obviously much quieter do to being packed with fibreglass:rasta: which seemed silly to me, because that is one of the whole premises OF the Supertrapp- "no fibreglass baffling to blow out design"

-the fibreglass baffling in their E.A.R. core does blow out, by the way, and then becomes loud again :(

the stainless steel DOES turn a nice gold colour though. *bling*:D

i now have a cheap as shite "Raptor" by Flowmaster. it was literally the cheapest muffler i could find while looking for one. and it works just fine.:flipoff2:

I have read in the past that if you wanna keep some of the lower end torque, to stick with a 1.75" pipe... How do you guys with 2" pipe feel... Have you lost any more torque, or does it work just fine... Like we have that much torque anyhow right? Just curious...

when I ripped out my old exhaust and installed a calmini system (2"), I noticed an immediate increase in power and better idling and such. I'd definitely recommend the slightly large pipe size. Even when I had like 8 holes in my exhaust and it was busted at the coupling to the cat, it still wasn't that loud. I don't think the sammy engine is capable of making that much noise.

Run an open header, and you'll see that the Samurai 1300 is definitely capable of being noisy. Not like an :usa: big-block with open headers, but definitely louder than you want it to be. After ripping my exhaust off on the trail, I wound up having to drive home from Oregon to California with nothing but an open header. THAT was loud.

I did notice a loss in low-end torque, and the high-rpm power was barely noticeably better.

I run a Thorley header, 2-inch exhaust, an 11-inch cat, and a Dynomax Race Magnum muffler. It looks like a small cherry bomb, but muffles the exhaust much better and gives it a very deep, throaty sound. I have good low-end torque (much more a factor of the cam than the exhaust) and high-rpm power doesn't fizzle out even past 8000rpm. I'm very happy with my setup.

The only real problem I've had is recurring exhaust leaks, a result of cracks that form in the pipe and the housing of the cat. Since my exhaust is tucked up so high against the bottom of the body tub and protected by my skidplate, it's not like it's getting hit. Rather, my constant high-rpm driving creates vibrations that cause cracks every which place. Rather than replacing the exhaust line every time, I just run a bead over the crack and it fixes it. But later on, a crack appears elsewhere. Oh well, not much I can do.

I also run a flowmaster and i love it.I have a header 2 1/2 pipe and a 2 chamber flowmaster and i also removed the cat. I have yet to hear another like it
