Today, we had a meeting with Tom Quinn, the new TNF Supervisor. During the course of our meeting, I mentioned that while El Dorado NF has their crown jewel, the Rubicon...Tahoe NF also has their crown jewel, The Fordyce.
I told him that I highly recommend that he gets a ride on the trail to appreciate it fully. His reply was that he was very interested in such a trip.
I was generally encourage by the meeting with Mr. Quinn. He appears to be for recreation in public forests. His main comment was (something we've been saying all along) that DEIS is not just a motorcycle/ATV issue...it's a total recreation issue. Bird watchers, sunday drivers, campers, hunters, fisherman, OHV users, and any other possible use in the forest...even driving into the forest, pulling over and reading a book.
I will personally keep a Fordyce Field Trip on his agenda.
