how do you do it without using a slide hammer?

this is for an 89 MJ, 30 front, vaccudisco

I have the retaining nuts and the three bolts off......I know this thing is pressed on there, what tricks are there to getting the damned thing off?

Smack the thing with a BFH but DO NOT hit the bearing races...

....
Put the three bolts in again just enough to start coming out in front (so you don't get the thread's in the hub destroyed).
Then start smacking the three bolts in turn with a hammer,

PS !
You may need new bolts, since the bolt-head can be a bit smacked. (save the old for next time)

I had a hell of a time getting the hubs off my old Dana 30, but I ended up using a 10lb dead blow soft hammer and the popped after about 20 whacks, that' how my buddies trans shop does it too, some penetrating oil around the back of the hub doesn't hurt either.

yeah, a couple of 2 handed swings with a 4 pound sledge got it to pop out....am I going to have problems getting it to pop back in?

Just put it back in and tighten up the bolts and axle nut. Then I would always put my tire against a vertical wall and turn into it (whatever side I had taken apart) with the f&r of the tire. Check evrything again for tightness. If it wasn't fully seated jamming the tire should do it.

I use a sledge.

Id use some red lock-tight when throwing it all back together.

My first time I forgot the disk dust cover, I tightend up the lock-tight bolts and steped backwards to view my nice work only to step on the dust plate.

Use anti-sieze around the hub and on the spline of the axle shaft when you put it back together. I did that with mine when I replaced the hubs the first time. When it was time to install the locker I just removed the three bolts and tapped the hub a little and it slid right out.

Locktight on the BOLTs, Antisieze on the Hub.

I was a little confused by the two post's so I thought I would clarify it for the :rainbow: who will not see this anyway because they don't use the search.

How could you forget the dust shield? I put mine back on the first time.

Backwards, of course:D Figured it out when I couldn't put the rim back on it. Double-DOH!
