Very soon, I plan to swap in a Vortec V8, and I have read that it requires a high pressure fuel pump. What have you all done, or what have you seen done successfully? If you know brands or part numbers, that would be great. I think I've got exhaust, and driveline worked out. ...so far.

i have a high volume holley fuel pump feeding a resevoir mounted on the firewall witch is also a filter(i can show you how to make one of these if interested) from the resevoir to the inlet i have a mallory 300i (i believe thats right), it puts out plenty of pressure. i have heard that if you dont have at least 55psi you wont be able to get it started........hope that helps. there is also a guy there in arkansas that is real good with vortec's, his name is John Lloyd. The only way i know of to get ahold of him is through Wagoner machine in claremore......Good Luck!
Thanks. The guy I'm buying the Vortec from knows John well. I think I'll try him.

i use a frame rail mounted pump from a 351w equipped 89 f150. i run a 1999 vortec 350. the pump works great.
I used the Ford pump mentioned above. It just so happened that my sources pointed me in the same direction. It's been on now for over seven months, and I have no complaints.

So you guys with the ford pumps, do you run an in tank pump at all? Is your pump located below the level of the tank? I can't seem to find a way to mount the pump close to the tank and low enough to have it work right. I am now starting to consider pulling the sending unit out in order to fit a bosch prepump into it. This is for a 4.0 swap, but the problems are the same for all EFI swaps.

I mounted the fuel pump on the passenger's side frame rail, just behind the transfer case. I've been running it that way for over nine months now without incident. It's my daily driver too! One thing that may have helped solve any problems is the fact that my gas tank took a hit and my fuel gauge doesn't work. I have to keep the tank topped off.

Set up same way as CJ7. No problems at all, well not from the fuel system. I did rerun all new lines though.

I got a fuel pump from Napa. its a good pump i think 90psi max. Just go and tell them you need hi pressure and they will look up some sort of MPFI pump.

The vortec needs 65# to start, and runs at about 45#.
Your most reliable pump is going to be the gm in tank pump.
If you have a steele tank you can use a gm donor tank, and have a raditor shop weld the GM bung to the jeep tank.
I have also used the Trail quest tank (http://www.trailquest.com/tanks.shtml#custom) with the factory gm pump and sender. If you got the bling its a decent way to go.

A guy I know fabbed a small reservoir out of tubing to mount the GM in tank pump. This was fed by a low pressure in line pump. Seems to work well for him. HTH
