I am putting dual cases in my truck with auto tranny. Someone had told me that I shouldnt put 4.7s in the rear case and just have 2.28 in both. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

i dont see why you shouldnt put 4.7s in the rear case. what was the reasoning for someone to tell you that?

Putting it in the rear case is better then putting it in the front case. So long as the gears/cases are strong enough in the rear case to handle the added torque that will be generated, i would say you should be fine.

they told me that it was too low and I would never need it

right... with an auto, if you gear it too low and depending on your TC choice and what kind of brake setup, you may not be able to stop her without shifting to neutral. really low crawl ratios on autos will want to crawl through the brakes... i'm assuming thats what they meant.

I think that would be true with just stock dual transfer cases. By the way, I have a 1990 toyota truck, v6. Will be using top shift t-cases.
