What would be the VERY BEST diff/gear oil for a stock "DANA 50" (front) and "Sterling 10.5" (rear). I've heard the "Red-Line" (shock-proof) was good???? Can I put the same oil in both and why?????:homer:

I thought the consensus was that Royal Eunich Narwhal Tusk Oil was the preferred lubricant of the PBB.

Take this post to ford-trucks.com...please.

I'll jump in here...there is a difference in gear oils but I hadn't realised it for years until dealing with Steve Barlow at a CORR event last year. We were helping him pit his Pro 4 truck and Rob mcCackren's Pro 2 truck when we got into the discussion of him breaking gear-sets. He explained that he used to break a TON of gear-sets, as did most of the CORR guys, and explained that it was shock-loading taking out gears right and left. I told him about the Dana 60 gear-sets we were breaking as well as the locking collar issues on the 9" ARB's and he went into detail about how there were new gear oils out there that were so well developed to reduce shockloading, that he went from changing gears just about every race, to running a season on a set. That's one heck of a testimonial to the difference in oils and they were already running the "good stuff".
We ended up working with the engineer that supplied the oil before the stuff was available on the market, and now that it's out, have made the jump to the new gear oil. It's called AMSOIL Severe Gear Synthetic and we picked it up from a Pirate vendor, www.4x4oil.com. I normally say "proof is in the pudding" and don't talk stuff up before I've had a chance to fully test it. I've only had the oil in our diffs for a few days worth of wheeling so I don't have any conclusions. HOWEVER, after hearing Barlow and his pit crew talk about their shockloading issues and broken gears, I decided that if it solved their serious abuse breakages, it'll probably solve ours too.

Hey there all,

Dustin/Becca are currently running the 190 weight in their vehicle.

I have been working with both of them and Amsoil corp. for a few month on this now and can't wait to get some good feedback from them after they take it out for some good hard use.

Another one of my teams is also using this stuff, XRRA #42 Outlaw Motorsports. They are still in the finishing touches of the rig for this season so again, no real world experience just yet, but if this stuff can stand up to a CORR truck, I am sure it will serve both WERock and XRRA VERY WELL!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me know if anyone needs any pricing info.
